LG Toronto Fashion Week F/W 2010: VAWK

Yesterday, I had the awesome pleasure of working the VAWK show with the fabulous CARGO Cosmetics team! In case you aren't familiar, VAWK is the Canadian line launched by Project Runway Season 2 winner, Sunny Fong. The show was held at The AGO, a fitting venue for the theme of his line: structure meets disintegration.

The makeup inspiration was what I like to call "ice princess": strong architectural brows, pale creamy white eyes and lashes, frost bitten cheeks and paled out lips with just a smudge of red in the center. The lovely and talented Key Artist and CARGO National Artist and Training & Education Manager in Canada, Annesley, collaborated with Sunny to create this whimsical yet edgy look.

The fab makeup team with Sunny! L-R: Eunique, Sunny, Kristie, and Annesley

The makeup went through many variations before we got to the final look but the end result looked stunning on the runway! The hair, done by the fantastic team at Salon Daniel, was ah-mazing. The top was teased for volume, hair kept close to the sides and the back was pulled into a square bun. The excitement of seeing a bride in her wedding dress with the hair and makeup done was very much the same feeling after the models were in their outfits!

1st look

2nd look, lip colour is applied just to the inner center of lips

After the first run-through, we realized the lips just didn't translate. The natural day light was also washing the models out and the colour on the cheeks needed to be bumped up a few notches.

3rd look, applied more pink blush to the apples and made the lips stronger and less defined

The final look! Lots of pink on the apples, strong white shimmer on the cheekbones, and red lipstick smudged in the center with clear gloss over top

The look was created using all CARGO Cosmetics. It was my first time working with CARGO's Oil-Free Foundation and I absolutely loved the coverage. Skin was still properly covered yet had a luminous finish. The pouch packaging is especially handy for transporting and even more perfect if you're a makeup artist. Another product I fell in love with is Catalina blush which I will have to pick up! In the tin, it looks like a soft pink but don't be fooled! This colour has a lot of pigment but is definitely buildable. This was the blush used to create the baby doll pink cheeks on all the models.

Funny guy - he actually stooped down to my height!

The show was fabulous and Sunny was an absolute sweet-heart! His talent and humble attitude is inspiring and I was so happy to be apart of the show. I was glad to work with Annesley and Eunique again and to finally meet the uber-talented artist, Kristie Stoodley! Working with a great team just makes working shows that much more fun.

A few of my favourite pieces

Loved the jewelry pieces!

What did you think of the makeup look?

In My Kit: Bridal Beauty Must-Haves

Want to know what my kit essentials are when getting the bride ready for her special day? I like to carry a few primers with me for different skin types. Since most weddings happen in the summer, a must-have primer for me is CARGO blu_ray High Definition Mattifier

Makeup 101: Bridal Beauty

Wedding season has begun! My bridal beauty philosophy has always been radiant, flawless, timeless and naturally you but better. You don't want to look back at your wedding photos ten years from now and think, "What was I thinking?".

Trying to decide on the right look for you can be difficult. Many look at the celebs for inspiration, but in the end you want to decide on a look that will suit you. You also want makeup that isn't fussy and will need multiple touch-ups throughout the day. Keep in mind, your wedding makeup will be a bit stronger to compensate for lighting in the photographs. So, don't be alarmed if you're wearing more blush than usual. A skilled makeup artist will know how to make those cheeks pop while making it appear like you're glowing from within.

Check out my sister site, Makeup 'n The Bride, for different bridal looks. Learn how to achieve a glowing, blushing bride look in my latest post featuring the lovely Lauren from LIFT Beauty Boutique!

Beauty Deal: Vidal Sassoon $25 Cuts!

Ladies (and gents), if you're looking for a new do for Spring definitely check out the cutting edge stylists at Vidal Sassoon! I thankfully have found THE hair stylist for me, but if you're still hopping from salon to salon this is a great way to test the waters.

To get your $25 (plus tax) hair cut, book an appointment with one of the Sassoon Academy students. Don't worry - they are already-licensed hairdressers looking to learn new techniques. Please keep in mind, they are only looking for those wanting a new shape as opposed to just a trim. A student cut also takes double the amount of time as a regular cut so don't book in between appointments.

Book appointments at either 9:30am or 1:30 pm Monday through Friday (416-920-1333). Sassoon is located in the heart of Yorkville at 37 Avenue Road.

Beauty Gone Bad Winner!

We all have beauty gone bad stories and although my eye infection was not a fun experience, I thought it would be great to make light of the situation by having others share their bad experiences and win some beauty prizes! Ironic right? ;)

I also wanted to do a give away that would fall close to my birthday which I celebrated yesterday! I am so thankful for all my awesome readers, some who I have had the pleasure of meeting. Thank you to everyone for sharing your beauty gone bad stories with the rest of the world - I hope you have recovered!

There could only be one winner and each of you had some awful stories! The one that really stood out to me was from Lena! I too have had bad experiences with plumping lip products but going into labour takes the cake! I thought it was a great story of beauty gone bad into a beautiful story of a new life being born! Congrats Lena! You have won a Makeup Junkie beauty prize pack of products from L'Oreal, Zoya, Milani, Benefit, CARGO, La Senza, CoverGirl and Maybelline! Enjoy your products!

You can read about Lena's story here:
I've experienced beauty gone bad just once (thankfully) - I was sent a lip plumping product to review, and although I've used plumpers before, the combination of cinnamon oil and whatever other voodoo they put in this product actually caused my lips to swell, crack and eventually bleed. Don't know if it was the lip gloss or strictly coincidence, but I went into labour the same day :)

Funny - the product is now on shelves, but does not carry the disclaimer as I suggested: "May cause your water to break."
Thanks again to Lena for sharing her story! You will be contacted via email for your mailing address. Stay tuned for more contests coming up!

Beauty Feature: Cargo Spring Must-Haves!

Spring makeup wouldn't be complete without a few must-haves from one of my favourite beauty brands, CARGO Cosmetics. If your beauty wardrobe doesn't consist of at least one CARGO product this Spring then head to the stores and stock up on these must-haves!

1. CARGO Dare to Play Eye Kit ($45 US/CDN): Essential palette for Spring! This is truly a value set that contains 3 eye bases, five metallic shadows, and five bright and glitter-filled eyeshadow shades to make the eyes pop. If you love colour you will absolutely love this palette. This was a big hit at the Hope For Haiti beauty benefit back in February!

Step 1: Select an eye base: Nude (no shimmer), Shimmering Shell and Soft Beige (shimmer). Apply a small amount from lash line to brow bone (use your finger or eyeshadow brush). I absolutely love these eye bases because the shadows not only blend better but they last longer too.

Step 2: Pick a lid colour: Shimmering Bordeaux, Rustic Copper, Teal, Popsicle Purple, and Sparkling Tea . You can use any of these shades all over the lid, in the crease or as a liner. To use as a liner, use a damp angled brush. These shadows are highly pigmented and feel velvety-smooth to the touch. They blend beautifully and don't crease or fade especially with the base. If you want to intensify the shadow even more, use with a damp shadow brush.

Step 3: Add a "pop" of colour to the lid and the inner corner of the eyes. I love this last step because it really gives dimension to the eyes. All you need is a little dab to the center and corner since it's pretty glittery. Also great for those days when you just want a sheer wash of colour. Choose from: Sparkling Rose, Seafoam Green, Iced Mauve and Champagne.

2. Cargo Blush in Key Largo and Laguna ($26 US/CDN): Hands down CARGO blushes have become a staple in my everyday beauty stash! I am so in love with these silver tins of richly pigmented blushes. The new blushes for spring have me swooning. I'm already a fan of Amalfi, but Key Largo and Laguna (repromote) are also a definite must this season.

Key Largo is shockingly bright in the tin but don't be scared off by this shade. Described as "tropical punch", it really does add a punch of colour to your complexion. Although the blushes are highly saturated, they are very easy to blend and diffuse nicely. To get a pretty flush, mix a very small amount onto brush and sweep lightly onto the apples of the cheeks. This shade is gorgeous against darker skin tones but fair skin beauties can use it too! Keep eyes neutral, swipe a sheer coral gloss on the lips, and let the cheeks be the focus. If you have a lot of redness on the skin then skip out on this shade as it will only enhance it.

Laguna is back by popular demand and now I know why. I've been searching for a bright orange blush that would warm up my skin. I love mixing this blush with bronzer for that ultimate summer glow. This is one shade that is universal. Again, only a little amount is needed. These blushes may be pricier compared to other brands, but the over-sized tins and saturated pigments will definitely stretch your dollar.

3. CARGO PlantLove Lipstick in Evangeline ($20 US/CDN): I'm already a fan of these all-natural eco-certified lipsticks. We've featured many PlantLove lipsticks on Makeup Junkie! I fell in love with Evangeline, a sheer vibrant coral cream, while doing makeup at a fashion show with CARGO. I am one gal that doesn't shy away from a lil' colour on the lips! It has become one of my fave lippies for Spring! Pair with greens, bronze, golds, and peach.

CARGO Cosmetics is available in independent boutiques, Sears Toronto Eaton Centre, Murale in Canada, CVS, and ULTA.

Have you tried these spring must-haves from CARGO? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Want 'em?

Beauty Feature: Spring Forward!

The transition from winter to spring can be a bumpy flaky ride. Got skin? Then you'll want to know these skin-loving products. Sure, there are tons of pretty makeup out there but if your skin doesn't look good then nothing will. Spring forward and look healthy and radiant!

1. SK-II Facial Treatment Cleanser ($60 USD): If you have normal to moderately dry skin then you'll love the velvety texture of this cleanser. My skin always feels hydrated after. The magic ingredient is Pitera, a combination of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and organic acids that work together to restore the appearance of your skin while helping the skin rejuvenate on its own. I don't mind splurging on skin care but if the price is too steep try Burt's Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream.

2. Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner ($43 CDN): I love using this after I cleanse the skin. My face always feels refreshed - great to use throughout the day when your skin needs a pick-me-up. Use this before you apply your moisturizer. It not only tones and smooths the skin, but allows your moisturizer to really soak in.

3. Rodial Glamtox Eye Light SPF 15 ($143.94 CDN): I know, the price is ridiculous! But I've fallen in love with this eye cream and I just might...I received the travel size and now I think I'll have to ration it! I rarely ever do reviews on eye creams but this one really works for me! Rodial is your all-natural approach to plastic surgery. Their magic ingredient is Pomegranate Ellagic Tanin that boosts collagen production and restores youthfulness. It really hydrates my eyes and my fine lines, dark circles, and puffiness are less noticeable. I just love the radiant finish.

4. Rodial Glamtox SPF 18 ($156.50 CDN): I like to apply my moisturizer after my eye cream so it can help lock in the moisture. It's safe enough for around the eyes. I'm really sad my travel size has run out. When the hubby and friends think you're wearing makeup when you're really not is proof enough for me that this skin cream is fabulous! It really brightens and plumps up the skin. I've fallen in love with it but we may have to put our relationship on hold. When money is no object, maybe but would you spend that much on a skin cream??

5. Rodial Glam Balm ($100 CDN): Thank god I still have quite a bit left in my travel size pot! This is a multi-purpose anti-aging plumping treatment for your face, lips, neck and hands. My lips don't have a problem with fullness, but I love using this as a finishing touch around the eyes. Also great on the cuticles and as an intensive night treatment for the eyes. Dot a bit on the high planes of the cheeks and you have an instant highlight!

6. Cover FX Brightening Foundation Primer and Photo-Aging Defense SPF 50 ($45 USD): My makeup doesn't hold up so well if I don't use a primer. Primers these days do more than keep your makeup on. All Cover FX primers have anti-aging benefits and improve problematic skin. I love the Brightening primer for those days when my skin looks tired and needs a perk-me-up. I find for drier skin it does a good job at hydrating. The texture goes on a little liquidy but smooths easily onto the skin. Your left with a luminous, radiant finish. The "blur" affect minimizes my imperfections and fine lines and best of all keeps my makeup looking good all day!

7. Korres Face Primer ($28 USD): If you have sensitive skin and have an allergy to silicone, then you will love Korres 99% natural silicone-free primer. My initial thought was that it wouldn't hold up as well as a primer with silicone but this one is awesome! I am in love with it! It contains Vitamin E so over time you'll notice an improved appearance in your skin. My skin always looks smooth and also has a brightening effect. It feels nice and light on the skin and glides on like a moisturizer. Your makeup at night will look as fresh as it did in the morning!

8. Tarte Smooth Operator SPF 20 ($36 USD): When the weather gets warmer I love to switch my foundation to a tinted moisturizer with an SPF. Some tinted moisturizers don't give enough coverage but not Tarte's version. I still get optimal coverage without a heavy feeling. This all-natural tint has micro-treated mineral pigments that help diffuse fine lines and wrinkles. My skin looks luminous without looking oily, important as the weather warms up. The line has been relaunched with a new look and darker shades! I find the new tube is less messy. I'm using Agent 14, for medium complexions with yellow undertones, but I get dark in the summer so I'll have to try Agent 16, for medium dark complexions with golden undertones.

9. Tarte Provocateur Mineral Pressed Powder SPF 8 ($30 USD): I love this mineral powder because it doesn't look like you're wearing powder. During spring and summer, skin should look fresh and not caked on with powder. It applies silky smooth and is the perfect compliment to the Smooth Operator. Your makeup is perfectly set and you still get a pretty glow. It comes packaged in a super cute in a royal purple quilted compact. I prefer using a brush but the sponge is good for quick touch-ups. The line has also added 2 new darker shades! I'm a Honey 12, for medium to dark complexions with golden undertones.

10. Korres Lip Butter in Guava ($13 CDN): Finish off healthy skin with an all-natural lip moisturizer. When I tried Korres Lip Butter in Wild Rose, I fell in love. I decided I wanted this on my lips at all times but needed a clear one. I picked up Guava and I can't get enough! Yes, you have to dip your finger in the pot but I don't mind especially when my lips feel buttery smooth. A little goes a long way and I rarely have to reapply throughout the day (but I do anyways). The scent is also nice and light. You can also wear these on the cheeks for a dewy stain, but Guava works better as a highlighter on the cheekbones. I want the entire line - 2 down 5 to go!

What products are apart of your skin care regime? Have you tried these products? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Want 'em?

Happy St. Patty's Day!

Are you wearing your green today? In honour of St. Patrick's Day I am wearing one of the few green things I own - O.P.I. Jade Is the New Black from the Hong Kong collection. I was chatting with my Twitter peeps and realized just how black and white my wardrobe is!

Jade Is the New Black is a much deeper green in person. It is very green though and a trendy shade I rarely reach for it. I fell in love with it when I first tried it but it seems more appropriate for a day like today! But it's a fun colour for spring and if you're wearing all black looks great as an accessory!

For more green beauty check out Glitter Geek Arianne's gorgeous green eyes!

What do you think of this polish shade? Love it? Hate it? Want it?

Beauty Feature: The Price of Vanity

If my lashes could talk they would say "Whaa! What have you done??". Yes, I may have cried like a baby and asked myself the same question over the last few weeks. The question I have for you makeup junkies is how far would you go in the name of beauty?

A few weeks ago I wrote about how ecstatic I was to finally have the lashes I have always dreamed of. I had the opportunity to try lash extensions for the first time - you can read about it here. Quite a dramatic difference right? I also want to point out that I did not pay to have this service done. It was complimentary. *(Please note: to protect the integrity of the stylist all names and links have been removed. If you would like to know who applied my lashes, please contact me directly.)

A little over a week after I had the lashes applied, I experienced an agonizing and rather quite disgusting eye infection in my left eye. Picture sleepy dust times 10 and gooey green - gross right? Let me just say, this is the first time in my life since wearing makeup (we're talking since junior high) that I've ever had an eye infection.

I decided to contact, someone from Xtreme Lashes to see if this was common and if any of their clients experienced something similar. Here is part of her response:
The infection could be caused by several things:
-mascara has gone bad
-client touched a high germ surface ie. public door handle and forgot to wash hands and by accident rubbed eyes
-makeup clogged lash follicle
-lack of sleep
-stress
-not enough thorough cleansing of area
Lashes are adhered 1mm away from lid...so never touches skin or the lash follicles...so issues are usually rare.

I have heard from my instructor that some clients try not to touch/cleanse the lashes to preserve them. We don't promote that, we encourage to wash eyes but ideally with the Xtreme Cleanser (as all Xtreme products are made to work together with the extensions).
But how the client maintains or cares for the lashes after the procedure is up to their discretion and Xtreme can't be held responsible since it's not 100% proven Xtreme was the cause of the infection.
Xtreme emphasizes to all stylists about safety for the eyes...so not to over-weigh lashes (which could cause damage). We reject clients if their eyes are deemed to be unhealthy. So if your eyes happen to be sensitive to the glue or the synthetic extensions, then on behalf of Xtreme, i apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused. It's possible this procedure is not right for you. Results vary individual to individual.
I just want to point out that I am not writing this to place blame or point fingers. However, because I gave such high recommendations I do feel that it is my duty to share my experience especially since it is an investment not only in money but in time. I believe Xtreme Lashes or the glue that was used was not the direct cause of my infection, but it definitely contributed to it. I don't believe it was a "coincidence" and did not happen 2 weeks after but rather a week later. I barely got to enjoy the "benefits".

The first few days I noticed a few lashes fall out after I had cleansed the eye area with an oil-free makeup remover (as recommended by the stylist). So, to preserve the lashes I tried to use as little pressure when cleaning the lashes which resulted in lashes not being cleaned properly creating bacteria. Thus, the gunky red eye. Oh, and it later transferred to my right eye and to my husband's eye!

I immediately decided that enough was enough and the lashes had to come out. As recommended, I used an oil-based eye remover that would make the lashes "slide right off". That was absolutely NOT the case. When I wanted them to come out they wouldn't even with some oil. It took a few days for the lash glue to loosen up and I still have a few left in. I definitely lost a lot of my natural lashes but at least my infection is gone!

So, almost 3 weeks later and I'm left with even less lashes than before! My husband wonders if I'll ever stop being a guinea pig. Well, that's just the life of a beauty blogger right? I just want to reiterate that I am not placing blame but if I had to do it all over again I would never get lash extensions!

Do your research and be sure recommendations and referrals are at least 2 weeks after they had the lashes put in. Right before I got my eye infection, my BFF went and had it done before she went to Mexico. She said they were wonderfully long but not very full and you couldn't really notice them (she is used to MAC #7's). She ended up putting fake lashes over top of the extensions - doesn't make sense right? At Xtreme, they are all about a "natural and seamless" look but if you can't really notice them then what's the point? I also felt they weren't as full and needed mascara to accentuate them. Because she was in humid weather and using fake lashes, the extensions fell out by the end of her week long trip.

Lesson learned? Stop obsessing over what you don't have and be happy with what you do have! As Tim Gunn would say "Make it work people!".

How far would you go for beauty? Have you ever experienced beauty gone bad? Leave your experience in the comments. The best (or worst) story will win a Makeup Junkie beauty prize pack of goodies from various brands! Contest winner will be announced on March 22nd at 12 pm!

Beauty Feature: Beauty Travel Tips With Andrea Claire!

Spring break is just around the corner. If you're planning a get-away, you'll want to read beauty traveling tips and beauty must-haves from jet-setting celebrity makeup artist, Andrea Claire!

Makeup Junkie: What is a common mistake women make when packing their beauty bags?

Andrea Claire: Most women take too many beauty products while on vacation - present company included! My suggestion - streamline. Traveling is not the time to do trendy make up. Think of where you are going and the type of vacation you want. I suggest similar make up to bridal so you will look radiant and beautiful.

MJ: Does it depend on the type of climate what products to take?

ACAbsolutely! If it's a hot sunny humid climate bring a tinted moisturizer with SPF, avoid powders and foundations.  If it's colder/dry climate, bump up your moisturizer.

MJ: What must-have beauty products do you recommend?

AC: NARS The Multiples are great as they truly have multiple uses. A new fave of mine, Kevyn Aucoin's The Prime Color Creme Eye Shadow - the cream to powder finish is great for various climates and easy to carry-on. Jemma Kidd Tinted moisturizer, Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets, Bobbi Brown eyeshadow palette that has 6 eyeshadows that I can play with and then a lip gloss. I don't wear lipstick anymore - my husband won't kiss me if I wear and well... I love his smooches!

MJ: How do you keep yourself refreshed and radiant when flying?

AC: I do drink a TON of water on the plane and I have a facial spray, Herb Salad Mist by SkinFood - a line from Korea that I got hooked on when living in Singapore. Then a little bronzer blended with Jemma Kidd's All Over Dewy Face Glow. Blend a little extra of Jemma Kidd's glow into your highlight points - it'll give you a lift out of your jet lag!

MJ: If you were trapped on a deserted island what would be your must-have beauty items?

AC: Since it's plural... My list from from above and Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and sunscreen, so if I am saved I won't look leather-faced and haggard. If I am by myself, can I request a soccer ball so I can have a friend to talk too?! [MJ: picturing Tom Hanks but can't remember the movie??]

Thanks to Andrea for all your beauty tips! For more tips and tricks, check out her beauty blog Andrea Claire: Beauty & The Blog!

Beauty Feature: Spring Love

Spring is in the air! Can you feel the love? Makeup Junkie receives hoards of beauty products to try out and I love giving you the skinny on what's hot in spring trends. Here are some of my faves so far. Stay tuned for more spring goodies!

Revolution Organics Freedom Gloss in Freedom: I was excited to find this lippie in my swag from the Toronto Beauty Blogger Brunch last month. Totally loving this gloss! Why? Revolution Organics products are formulated with 100% natural and 85% certified organic ingredients. I love good-for-you glosses that are rich in vitamins and antioxidants. You won't find harsh chemicals, parabens, mineral oil, petroleum or artificial ingredients in this gloss. The packaging is also 100% recyclable and biodegradable.

Freedom is a lovely strawberry red derived from an all-natural mineral-based pigment. It's spring love in a gloss! Freedom gives you the perfect kiss of red on the lips that it not over-powering. If you love glosses that appear more like a moisturizing stain then you will love this one. It's not a high-shine gloss but I don't mind because it's so wearable for day. The gloss applies sheer but is buildable. If you are hesitant to rock a red lip during the day try this one out!

Mary Kay Cheek Glaze in Mandarin & Pomegranate: When I first opened these eye-popping shades of gel stains, I knew these would be a spring hit! I love gel stains because they not only last but they give your skin a beautiful glow. These felt very light-weight and never felt sticky or tacky. Don't be afraid of the bright juicy hues - they apply sheer and are extremely buildable. In fact, I had to apply a few layers to get the ideal intensity. Love both shades - Mandarin fits perfectly into the coral trends and Pomegranate is a classic berry flush. They are infused with extracts of Mandarin, Orange, Watermelon, Peach and Vitamin E. It can also double up as a lip stain! These pots offer a lot of product and are awesome to use if you're a makeup artist. Just scoop out with a spatula and apply! Available March 16.

O.P.I. Hong Kong Collection Hot & Spicy: I attended an exclusive launch sometime last Fall and was ecstatic to receive a manicure and the entire collection! I'll admit, there were some shades I wasn't in love with and gave away but there are definitely a few keepers. On the coral trend again, Hot & Spicy is such a great melon-coral. It's not too orange and really pops against your skin especially if you have a tan. Loves!

Vasanti Lipstick in Denmark: This lipstick has got my pulse racing! I've been on the hunt for a fuchsia-magenta shade like Denmark. This is a bold notice-me lip shade that is new for spring and would look amazing with a nude or bronzey eye. The texture is ultra creamy and highly pigmented. It lasted on the lips and even left a nice stain after eating and drinking. Denmark looks gorgeous when paired with a LBD or neutral clothing.

Vasanti The Hamptons Eye Colour Palette: Well, this is probably the closest I'll get to visiting the Hamptons for now! Vasanti shadows are not only gorgeous but have a fabulous velvety texture and are highly pigmented. The set includes: soft neutral beige, soft peachy pink, neutral deep brown, periwinkle grey, and intense rich navy. All the shades are wearable and can easily go from day to night. I actually used the periwinkle grey and navy on a shoot yesterday. Produced a sultry smokey eye nicely. Also new for spring, this palette compliments the new lipstick shades Denmark, Sweden (nude pink), and Luxembourg (nude brown).

Have you tried any of these lovelies? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Want 'em?

Oscar 2010 Beauty Trend: Bold Pink Lips

Hollywood glamour was all over the Oscar red carpet last night! I don't think there was anyone's look that I was underwhelmed by. I thought many of the women looked fabulous but the clear winner for me was Sandra Bullock!

When I first saw the cameras on her, I immediately fell in love with her entire look. She was definitely dressed to win in her silver beaded and embroidered column gown by Marchesa. From head to toe she looked absolutely exquisite! I'm glad we didn't see the classic red lip which would have been an obvious choice. Bullock's bright bold pink lips added an element of surprise and radiance.

This photo of me was taken a few weeks ago at my friend's charity event. I usually do a red lip when I want to glam it up but I was bored of the same old look. After seeing so many pink lips on the red carpet, this is one beauty trend I'll be rockin' for Spring!

Beauty Review: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) Lip Tar

A stunning new innovation in lip color, OCC Lip Tar combines the longevity of a lipstick, with the ease of application of a gloss. Goes on slick and moist, and dries down to a satin finish.

Never have I come across a lip product such as OCC’s Lip Tars. I have read so many awesome reviews on them that I just had to have them myself. The gloss comes in a little tube with a slanted tip which can be directly applied onto your lips but in my opinion this is best applied with a brush for extreme precision. Also, you want to start off with a tiny amount of product. And when I say tiny, I literally mean the size of this dot but even that might be a little too much! The tars are extremely pigmented that only a small amount is needed just as their website states “a little goes a very, very long way”.

The consistency and look of the tars kind of reminds me of artist paint and essentially that is what we are doing; painting our lips. The product does go on very wet but it is quick to dry as long as you don’t use a lot of it. I actually found it to be a little too dry for my liking so I layered a clear lip gloss on top and the results were beautiful.

Did I mention that they smell really good too? One of the ingredients is peppermint so it’ll leave your lips smelling nice and fresh. OCC is also known for using 100% Vegan and cruelty free ingredients and is also free of parabens and harsh preservatives which is a bonus in our books!

As far as staying power goes it does last pretty long but be careful not to smudge your lips because you’ll end up with a stained mess. I did find that it was a little hard to rub off with a plain tissue so you’ll probably want to use a makeup wipe for removal. It’d be wise to keep a few travel wipes in your purse just in case you run into a little accident.

Overall Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetic’s Lip Tars are a thumbs up. These cute little glosses come in 24 different colors to choose from.

Makeup Junkie readers already know what a huge fan I am of Milk Made Velveteen Hand Creme. Well, I've added some new faves to the list! I was more than happy to indulge in their latest arrivals: Milk Made Body Frothing Bath & Shower Cream and Milk Made Body Hydrating Moisture Milk.

Both have the yummy scent of warm vanilla with a hint of raspberry - in a hot steamy shower it smells like baked cookies! The shower cream is frothy and creamy just like a milkshake. This is one vitamin packed shower cream with avocado oil, shea butter, whole milk and marshmallow extract that will leave your skin soft and supple.

The hydrating spray moisturizer has an ultra light texture but contains the same moisturizing ingredients as the shower cream. Your skin will be double the smoothness. I thought the spray was a cool concept because it's quick and easy. To avoid the chills after a shower, don't spray directly on the skin! Spray in your hands and rub together first to warm it up.

Hurry and stock up on all your fave Cake products! Which goodies will you be snatching up?

Both retail for $22 CAD/$18 US.

Spring Preview 2010: Spring Fling The Corals

It's the first day of March which means Spring is just around the corner (fingers crossed)! To get you excited for Spring, I thought it would be fitting to begin this month with one of this season's hottest trends: coral lips.

Why Spring fling? Because there's too many fun shades to choose from! Stay tuned for more beauty trends Makeup Junkie is crushin' on this season!

Coral lips will warm up any complexion. Let your lips be the focus and give your eyes a nice swipe of bronze, gold, or shimmery peachy-pink shadow. Stick to coral, peach, or bronze tones on the cheeks to compliment coral lips.

Smashbox Heartbreaker Lip Shine Melon Drama: If you love ultra-shiny glosses that pack a punch then you'll love Melon Drama! This colour is gorgeous and such a fun colour for spring. I think this is a universal shade that compliments all skin tones. Gloss feels smooth and rich but never sticky. The shine and colour last longer than your average gloss. The portable squeeze tube means no dipping the fingers!

Bobbi Brown Coral Sands Shimmer Gloss: This is the perfect coral shade to pair with a green or bronze smokey eye. The sheer golden peach hue is lovely on its own but looks amazing over top of a peach or nude lipstick. The shine doesn't last as long, but the shimmer leaves a nice sparkle on the lips. The gloss isn't sticky and leaves my lips moisturized. The only thing that bugged me was the brush; the hairs stick out and is really small. I'd definitely prefer a wand. It's a nice gloss, but 4.2 ml for $20 US is a bit steep. Hopefully they will come out with a bigger version??

Le Metier de Beaute Color Core Moisture Stain Lipstick Marrakech: If you're looking to splurge on a lipstick then try Marrakech from Le Metier de Beaute. I had heard great things about the brand and was excited to receive a sample of their lipsticks. This lipstick is a dream on the lips. Colour is long-lasting and very creamy. Marrakech is a sophisticated coral that has a shimmery frost finish, perfect for after-work cocktails. For all you proud Canadians (GO CANADA!), the brand sadly isn't available in Canada.

Vasanti Tinted Lip Balm in Cancun: Here is one brand that is made in Canada! Cancun has quickly become a favourite and has made a nice home in my makeup stash. I love tinted lip balms and this one does not disappoint. It feels like butta' on the lips and gives your lips a sheer kiss of colour. Cancun is a beautiful coral with a touch of pink that will look great on all skin tones. If you're a little weary to try a coral, then go with a tinted version.

Have you tried these coral lippies? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Want 'em?
