Beauty Review: NYC Nail Glossies Beauty Must-Have!

Last weekend I had to pick up some products for my shoot and I didn't want to spend an absurd amount so I checked out the drugstore near my house, Pharmaplus. I needed a couple of shadows, some lashes, and nail polish. I've been looking for a hot pink nail colour for a while and was really disappointed by Maybelline's Salon Expert Nail Color in Hot Pink because it looked more red than pink on me. NYC's Nail Glossies in Fusion Pink (with Vinyl Shine and Pro Vitamin B5) has ended my search! The colour is spectacular and deliciously vibrant! I didn't want anything muted so this was absolutely perfect. The price was even more perfect - $2.99 CDN!! It's such a steal and almost wrong that something so awesome is that cheap but I'm not complaining! I honestly hate to spend over $10 on nail lacquer because I work with my hands all the time so it never lasts as long as I'd like. When I saw it on the model, I couldn't wait to get home and try it on me! The colour is exactly like it is in the bottle. It coats the fingertips evenly with no streaks and you only need 2 coats. The picture above is Day 4 (excuse my DIY manicure!) and right now I'm on Day 6 it's only chipped a bit and I'm always using my hands especially with my son. I also picked up Turquoise Seas, a gorgeous blue-green to alternate with my pink nails for Spring! I'll do another review soon. Hot pink tips is such a nice change from the dark nails especially in the dead of winter. I'll definitely be going to pick up more! I hope NYC comes out with more vibrant hues for Spring/Summer! What colours will grace your finger tips this Spring? Happy shopping!

Makeup Junkie Loose In Sephora!

Ahhhhh! I'm still coming down from my high after attending the beauty event at the new Sephora store on Bloor Street! On my way there, I realized way too late that I had left my camera at home!! Unfortunately, I cannot share any pictures from the event - boo. As soon as I got home, I took some pictures of my stash which I cannot way to share with you!

I was really nervous but extremely ecstatic to have the chance to go. The event was to introduce Sephora to Canada and to announce the openings of more locations in Quebec at Fairview, Point Claire and Les Promenades, St. Bruno, as well as Ottawa, Rideau Centre and Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket, Ontario; scheduled for late Spring, early Summer 2008! Sephora plans to make its mark in the Canadian market which I don't think will be too hard a task!
"Canada is a very important focus for us in 2008 and beyond," says Marie-Christine Marchives, VP Canada. "The client response we have had to our newly opened stores in Alberta and Ontario has far exceeded our expectations and we are very excited about our future,"
Interesting facts about Sephora:
  • founded in France in 1969 and acquired by Paris-based LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton in 1997
  • Sephora.com launced in 1999 and is the world's top beauty website
  • carries 13 000 products from more than 200 brands including the Sephora collection
  • first beauty retailer to employ the unique open-sell philosophy, encouraging customers to touch, play and try everything
  • Sephora's cast members are rigorously trained in an intense Sephora educational program focused on skincare, hair care, and general beauty
  • customers can now register for the new client loyalty program, Beauty Insider (I signed up yesterday!) which entitles you to special information on events and must-have items, exclusive samples, Insider-only products, birthday gifts and an all-access pass to personalized beauty
As soon as I checked in, I received my badge and a shopping basket with a gift card and press release. I wasn't sure if I should just start shopping but I saw some other women shopping away so I followed suit! The store is huge - it has to be bigger than the Eaton Center location. I really liked the layout because they had some makeup lines displayed against the walls where only fragrances would usually be (camera would have come in handy!). I had no idea who would be there and when I arrived, I was kind of overwhelmed to be amongst many beauty and fashion editors and some well-known makeup artists including Sephora Canada's own Pro Makeup Artist, Ali Lando. I spotted Susie Sheffman, Fashion Director of Fashion Magazine. I was really happy to run into a makeup artist friend named, Sandra, from agency Judy Inc.! I also ran into celebrity makeup artist, Tony Masciangelo from the Plutino Group agency, who I assisted a few years ago for Fashion Magazine.

I had a hard time deciding prior to what goodies I would pick up. A lot of the newer launches really didn't impress me. I was really curious to try out Cargo's Blu_ray collection and the only thing that I thought worth getting was the mattifier but I'm still trying to finish the M.A.C. one I have. The blush colour was barely visible on my skin and the pressed powder was coloured which went on chalky. It may be great for my fairer skinned clients though, but I prefer to use colourless powders. The glosses were nice but seemed no different than a non "high-def" gloss. I don't know, too much hype? I may have to give it another test. The next thing I tried out was Stila's Cherry Crush Lip and Cheek Stain. It was nice and is great it has all those added skin benefits but it didn't make me want it that bad probably since I have so many stains including Benefit's Benetint Pocket Pal that has a similar colour. I also tried Stila's Face Contouring Palette that I've been lusting after but my friend Sandra talked me out of it. Plus, I didn't really like the highlighter it came with - the shimmer had a crumbly texture. She convinced me to save my money and get Make Up For Ever's Compact Modellers (in Canada only carried at Sears and artist discount only applies there) which is cheaper with a makeup artist discount. I love Nars but the Spring collection was just ok. I already had similar colours. I also tried Benefit's Thrrrob and I don't know if it was just the lighting but came on a pale chalky pink on me?? Anyone with a similar skin tone as me or darker try it? Was it fine for you?

Ok, so lets get to the good stuff already! I figured I'd get one product from the lines I liked and focus on Spring/Summer hues. I picked up Sephora's Detail Lash Curler to get at those small lashes or to create a flirty effect, Sephora's Flashy Liner Waterproof in Flashy Blue (vivid turquoise) for a fun pop of colour for Spring, Nars Lipstick in Dolce Vita (sheer dusty rose) because it's a cult classic and I've always wanted it, Urban Decay's Deluxe Eyeshadow in Scratch (shimmering silver pink) because the colour is so pretty and the packaging is funky and psychedelic, Cargo's Eyeshadow Palette Mozambique because it's a must-have for the kit and is a great mix of neutrals with pops of colour (aquamarine, amethyst, topaz, quartz and sand), Rosebud Salve because I ran out and is a great inexpensive multi-purpose balm, and Tarte's new Double Dose Gloss in Go Go Goji (sheer sparkling blush pink - looks like a pinky/peach) because I'm tired of glosses that are too sheer and it's good for you! I think I want to get them all but the $30 price may scare some of you but I'm used to Nars so prices don't phase me haha. I also received a sample size of Make Up For Ever's Aqua Eyes Waterproof liner in Mat Black free with my Beauty Insider card! I'll be doing separate reviews for each of them later this week!

Stay tuned for more reviews (yesterday was like Christmas!) of Billy B. Beauty's travel brush collection, eye lash curler and lash/brow separator, the anticipated On Makeup Magazine from The Powder Group, and my new nail polish faves from NYC (my fuchsia pink tips were adored last night!). Oh and next week I'll be announcing my first ever beauty give away! It's a good one!

Beauty News: Coming Up On Makeup Junkie!

I have some very exciting events I'd like to share coming up on Makeup Junkie!

Yesterday I did a beauty shoot with a good friend of mine, Mila Victoria, who is an amazing fashion photographer and makeup artist. The picture is my work area which started out fairly neat but by the 4th look ended up disastrous! But in my defense the table was pretty small. However, I'm still embarrassed lol. I'm really excited because it's the first beauty shoot I've done in a year and we came away with some really amazing shoots! I can't wait to see them and share it with you! I'm really glad to be getting back into it. I'm hoping to do a beauty editorial at least once a month for Makeup Junkie which will feature the latest beauty trends. This beauty story will be featuring the bright hues of Spring from natural to edgy. Stay tuned!

This Wednesday, February 23rd, I will be attending a beauty event at the newest Sephora store on Bloor in Toronto! I'm ecstatic!!!! I salivate every time I step into Sephora haha. I will have the chance to mingle, munch on appetizers, sip champagne, and do some serious shopping compliments of Sephora! Oh what to get??! Any ideas for must-haves? I haven't bought anything from Sephora since Christmas! That's a long time for me! I remember my first trip to NYC back in 2001 was when I first fell in love with Sephora. I'm just happy Sephora made its way to Canada! Any other beauty bloggers in Toronto coming out for the event? Would love to meet up! Anyways, stay tuned for my pics, reviews, and buys!

February 24th is another beauty event with celebrity makeup artist Scott Patric (Angelina Jolie, Katie Holmes, Madonna). I honestly have never heard of him and I googled him and still couldn't find any info. Has anyone else heard of him? Well, he'll be showing us how to achieve a perfect face and smile in 5- 10 mins. And we'll also be the first to try a new product by Listerine and apparently it's not mouthwash? Anyways, I'm kind of intrigued and hopefully it'll be worth the trip out!

The last news I'm kind of apprehensive about but still excited. I will be getting a complimentary cut, style, and colour from Vidal Sassoon some time next week. The whole event will be featured on my site including expert styling tips. Vidal Sassoon is known for introducing the world to the classic bob as an asymmetric five-point hairstyle and for giving really trendy, cutting-edge hairstyles. Well, this season they want to Stretch into Spring with a modern interpretation featuring bold fringes, sharp head-hugging layers and refined sleek cuts. Stylists will combine the state-of-the-art GeoFlux (??) cutting technique with the advanced GeoTone colour application (??). I'm really glad I'll be getting a consultation first. I've always admired girls that could carry off these trendy looks and I'm not sure if I can carry it off. Hopefully they'll be able to create a trendy style that looks like me. I'm getting nervous thinking about it!! Ok, it's just hair right? It'll grow back...

Can't wait to share all the new things with you! What's new and exciting in your life?

Celebrity Beauty Style: Katherine Heigl Channels Old Hollywood Glamour At The Oscars!

Katherine Heigl has become a favourite Hollywood beauty of mine. If there's an event to go all out it's definitely the Oscars. She just has that natural glamour and class of Old Hollywood's leading ladies. Katherine was also a favourite of mine at the Emmy awards - she definitely knows how to glam up the red carpet right! Her glamorous pin curls, matching red lips, diamond drop earrings, and red, asymmetrical form-fitting Escada dress were simply stunning together. To recreate Katherine's Old Hollywood look:

Brows: One of the key elements of carrying off this strong look is filling in the brows to frame the face. Give your brows shape and natural definition with Chanel's Professional Brow Duo.

Eyes: Strengthen, lengthen and give volume to your lashes by applying a mascara primer like Chanel's Lash Enhancing Base. Enhance your lashes with Chanel's Multi-Dimensional Mascara for volume, length, extreme curl, and separation.

Lips: Prevent feathering and bleeding with Chanel's Precision Lip Definer in Roux. Give your lips a semi-matte finish with Chanel's Rouge Hydrabase Creme Lipstick in Inspiration.

Face: Compliment bold lips with a sun-kissed glow by applying Chanel's Silky Bronzing Powder
on the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin for subtle contouring.

Hair: Keep those curls in place with Frederic Fekkai's Sheer Hold Hairspray for sure hold in any weather, making curls look shiny and not dry and crunchy.

Other favourite looks of the night were:

Anne Hathaway

Heidi Klum

Jessica Alba

Favourite speeches of the night were Diablo Cody and Oscar winner Marion Cotillard . They were truly ecstatic and overwhelmed to receive the award and their speeches were heartfelt and genuine! Diablo Cody was a little awkward by fidgeting with her dress and the split that went up so high you could see her goods while she walked! But I think that's what added to her likeability because she didn't look so perfect accepting her award. And Marion Cotillard was so adorable "you really rocked my world!". Loved it! Who were your favourites of the night? What were your fashion misses?

Beauty Review: Three Custom's Pink Dahlia Part 2

Yesterday's post, Three Custom Is Simply Beautiful, was nothing but rave reviews. I am really blown away by 3C's Lip Gloss Wands in Dahlia, a vivid blue-based pink. The pictures I took don't do it justice. It's a lot brighter and punchier in reality but the flash washed the colour out a bit. It's a gorgeous vivid pink for those that love to get noticed. The finish is much like a full colour lipstick with a glossy feel. The glosses aren't super shiny so they won't make your lips look like a goopy mess. Here's what really blew me away. I applied Dahlia around 5 pm, ate dinner, kissed my son a billion times and by the time 12:30 am came around the colour was still on and was as bright as when I first swiped it on! There's nothing in the description that says it's a long-wearing gloss and I had no expectation for it to last long because, well, it's a gloss. After the shine disappeared, it left an amazing stain on my lips and they still felt moisturized. I'm still in complete awe by Dahlia. I don't really like long-wearing lip colours because they dry my lips out, so I'm really happy that I've found a long-wearing lip gloss. Dahlia is a definite must-have for Spring!

Beauty Review: Three Custom Color Is Simply Beautiful Part 1

Photo Left: Me feelin' simply beautiful! Right T-B: Warm Pink Lip Liner, Dark Clarifier Pencil, Warm Nectar Wet/Dry Shadow, Simply Beautiful Creme to Powder Blush, Simply Beautiful Sheer Lipstick, Bellini gloss, Mini Pressed Warm Bronzer

No matter how many trendy colours come on the market we always go back to the basics. Neutral everyday shades are must-haves in any makeup junkie's beauty stash. I was thrilled to review some products for Three Custom Color because I had heard rave reviews from countless beauty/fashion mags and within the makeup artist community. Here is the product breakdown:

Mini Pressed Warm Bronzer: "Bronzers are smooth and silky with a delicate gold shimmer. Available in Cool for rosey-toned skin and Warm for golden-toned skin, these beautiful bronzers are ideal for creating a healthy, fresh look without the damaging effects of the sun."

Results: I have been using Benefit's Hoola bronzer for years and I think I've found a new favourite! I don't usually like bronzers that have too much shimmer because I find I look too shiny in warmer weather. But Three Custom's bronzer is velvety smooth, super-blendable and the shimmer particles are so fine that it leaves a soft sheen on the skin. The colour is a beautiful golden-bronze and not orange. The bronzer is cased in a small sleek compact with mirror, but it's still big enough to swirl a large size powder brush on it. No bulkiness and easy enough to throw in your bag. Another bonuse: these powders are also refillable!

Warm Nectar Wet/Dry Eye Shadow: "...silky Wet/Dry formula can be used as a shadow or liner, leaving a satin finish that lasts all day and into the night...divided into Cool or Warm so you can always find the perfect shade for your skin tone...".

Results: I applied Warm Nectar dry all across my lid and on the bottom lash line. The colour went on a soft pearly nectar perfect as a base or on its own for everyday. The colour really brightened up my eyes. The finish is not over-the-top shimmery so it's definitely office friendly. The texture is smooth and the pigment applies as is in the pan. I applied it wet on my hand so you can see the difference. The colour goes on more intense. This shadow didn't crease or fade either. These also come in refillable palettes! Warm Nectar is a definite neutral must-have.

Clarifier Pencil in Dark: "This innovative, nude-colored pencil is the perfect solution to instantly alleviate the look of red, hazy eyes, making them brighter, whiter, and more beautiful. This handy multi-purpose pencil also doubles as a spot concealer, perfect for small touch-ups."

Results: You're probably wondering what's so different about these vs. a white or beige eyeliner. Using a white eyeliner may look great on the runway but it isn't very natural in reality and beige liners often have too much yellow in them. The Clarifier is a fleshy-tone so it matches closely to your skin tone. The brightening effect isn't obvious but is definitely noticeable. I even dabbed some in the inner corner of the eye into the inner bottom lash line. It instantly lightened and covered the darker areas. My only complaint is that the pencil could be softer especially if you're applying it in the inner lash line. I had to warm up the tip between my fingers to make it softer, but once I did that it went on great. This will definitely be a staple in my beauty stash and I'll have to get the lighter one for my kit!

Simply Beautiful Creme-to-Powder Blush: "...we designed this unique shade by combining equal parts Cool and Warm elements to make these stunning shades appropriate for all skin tones: We started with Pink and Peach (2 colors that naturally brighten the face) then added Gold and Silver for a gorgeous, subtle shimmer. For a little "oomph!" the tone is slightly darker than the natural color of the lips and the natural flush of the cheeks. And voila - Simply Beautiful!"

Result: I've been in the market for a neutral cream blush. I have a few that are considered neutral but I find they either have too much pink or don't show up enough. When I saw it in the pot, it looked more like a terracotta brown. The colour also looked really pigmented so I wasn't sure how neutral or natural it would be. When I applied it, I was delightfully surprised that it applied like a pinky-brown with peach undertones. Use a light hand because the colour payoff is great and a little goes a long way. The first application applies sheer but still noticeable and buildable. I applied a 3 layers for the picture but in natural light you only need about 1 or 2. The formula is very creamy but then dries to a nice powder finish. You also have time to blend so don't be scared about looking streaky. The colour was long-lasting even without setting it with powder. I'll have to test this on someone with a cooler skin tone to see if it really suits both sides. I'll let you know! Oh - also available in refillable palettes!

Simply Beautiful Sheer Lipstick: This is apart of the Simply Beautiful collection that includes the cream blush above and was created with the same concept. This universally flattering shade comes in 2 other finishes gloss and semi-matte. I chose the sheer coverage. Ok, so I have a bit of a love affair with lip products and I think that I've fallen in love with my new favourite neutral lippie! It has the perfect amount of pink and peach and actually perks up my face! I loved how the shade didn't blend totally into my lip so the colour was still obvious. The texture is really creamy and has a bit of a shine. I've tested this and 2 other lip glosses from 3C and can't get over how long lasting the colour is! It lasted through 5 greasy chicken wings (it's my eat-bad night! lol), pita with dip, a couple of cookies and a couple glasses of water. The colour barely faded and looked like a really nice stain. It's a definite must-have! You can also purchase this in a refillable palette.

Lip Liner in Warm Pink: "...designed to glide effortlessly over the lips to allow for flawless application, easy blending and long wear...".

Result: After I applied the lipstick, I lightly defined my lips with the pencil. The colour blended right into the lipstick making it a perfect match. Warm Pink is like a pinky-peach and was really close to my natural lip colour. I don't typically line my lips but lately I've been using it everyday! It makes the perfect neutral liner if your lips tend to be more fleshy-pink. This is a must in my kit especially for brides!

Lip Gloss Wands in Bellini: I applied Bellini (this is considered a neutral shade on 3C's site) to the center of my lips for a nice highlight. I love this shimmery peachy-pink shade! The texture is non-sticky and the colour payoff is like a sheer full colour lipstick. It's a great everyday shade or perfect for a strong eye. I mentioned my love for their lip products and this has made a nice little home in my makeup bag!

Three Custom is definitely living up to all the hype! I'm hooked and now I need more! To learn more about Three Custom products and the founders click here. Stay tuned for Part 2 of my beauty review of Dahlia Lip Gloss Wand!

Beauty Icon of The Month: Supermodel Donyale Luna

In honour of Black History Month, my beauty icon is the first notable African-American supermodel and first black cover girl, Donyale Luna. I hadn't heard of Donyale until recently when reading about Andy Warhol who she had done a couple of screen tests for. When the media talks about past supermodels of colour you usually only hear about Beverly Johnson, Iman, or Naomi Campbell. It was interesting reading about her once glamourous life that later turned tragic. Starting her modeling career at the age of 20 in the mid '60's, her thin 6'2 frame, exquisite larger-than-life eyes and care-free personality took over the fashion world by storm. She broke down many barriers in the high fashion modeling industry being the first black model to grace the covers of Harper's Bazaar and British Vogue. During her years as a model and after, she also appeared in a few films including the lead role in Salome. As with most bright shining stars of that time, drugs always played a role in their demise. The beauty that was Donyale, ended tragically of a drug overdose in '79. Although she is gone, her beauty and the role she played in opening doors for women of colour in the fashion industry lives on. The strange thing is that in 2008 we're still not seeing enough women of colour on the runways! Colour is beautiful don't you think?

Beauty Trends: Rocker Chic NY Fall/Winter 2008 Part 5

Every woman needs that little black liner. Whether it was black liner or black shadow, eyes were edgy and rocker chic at Diane Von Furstenberg, Reem Acra, Nanette Lepore, L'Wren Scott, Temperley, Betsey Johnson, and Luca Luca. Black liner wasn't just smudged around the eyes - it was winged out and well defined paired with a little glitter and metallics, and nude lips with the exception of red at Betsey Johnson. Make it wearable for day by smudging a black liner really close to the top lash line and set it with a black powder shadow. Compliment it with a neutral blush and soft rosey pink lips or a sheer bronze gloss. For night, go all out and smoke it up and wing it out. Add some shimmer over top and the inner corner for added glitz.

Beauty Trends: Stained Lips NY Fall/Winter 2008 Part 4

Fall just wouldn't be the same without red lips. Instead of a strong defined red lip, colours in burgundy and wine will stain the lips as seen on the runways of Costello Tagliapietra, Carolina Herrara, Peter Som, Donna Karan, Milly, Rodarte, Ports 1961, and DKNY. It's definitely more wearable and the great thing is that there's so many fantastic lip stains on the market right now. The look is effortless, minimal makeup on eyes and just a bit of contouring on the cheeks. The lips are intended to be imperfect so skip the liner. The stain is to be patted and pressed in with your finger for a softer effect.

Celebrity Beauty Style: America Ferrera Is No Ugly Betty!

Doesn't America Ferrera look absolutely stunning? Far cry from Ugly Betty! She looked amazing accepting her NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series in her gorgeous azure Marchesa dress with gold embellishments. The colour worked so well with her skin tone. Her soft waves framing her face were perfect with her sunkissed skin. To recreate this look:

Eyes: Bronze up those lids with Pop Beauty's Lid Bronzer. Smudge the darkest colour closest to the lash line and the outer crease for a sultry effect. Mix the lighter shimmery shades in the inner corner for some sparkle.
Cheeks: Swirl on Pop Beauty's Blush Cake in Warm in Sienna to the apples of the cheeks, down the nose, forhead and chin for a natural bronze glow.

Lips: For peachy lips that glimmer, try Pop Beauty's Ribbon Gloss in Naked Ribbons. Apply peachy glow all over and top with bronze glow.

Hit or miss? What do you guys think?

How was everyone's V-day? Anyone indulge in lots of chocolates and wine?? My hubby treated me to a nice dinner and some amazing jazz. Despite my pmsing and cramps (of all days to get it!) I was able to enjoy a tribute concert to the late and great jazz pianist, Oscar Peterson. I was excited to get a little glammed up since it's something we rarely do these days :( My sweet-heart look included black liquid liner, soft shimmery pink shadow, faux flirty lashes, dewy skin with pink cheeks and bright pink lips. I wanted to take a picture but left the camera at home - oh wells! It looks like this weekend is going to bring on another dreaded snowstorm! Where is the sun??? Well, if you'll be staying in take some time to read some beautiful blogs!

Beauty Trends: '80's Influence NY Fall/Winter 2008 Part 3

What's not to love about the '80's? There's was no holding back when it came to makeup and hair - everything was go bold and go big. Thank goodness there was no teased, over-sprayed hair and frosty pink lipstick on the runways of Zac Posen, Carmen Marc Valvo, Juan Carlos Obando, Badgley Mischka, Bill Blass, Nicole Miller and Preen who all took makeup and hair inspirations from the '80's. The '80's glam look was modernized by using rich, metallic hues with pops of colour in the right places. I loved the look at Badgley Mischka with metallic brown tones mixed with plum and a bit of teal in the corners of the eyes. Shadow shaded up to the brow was also a big trend. Robert Palmer's Addicted To Love has become such a retro classic as well as the iconic women in the video. The red lip of last Fall made a return but was edgier with black smoky eyes and tightly slicked back hair. To turn these runway looks into reality, focus colour on one area of the face to keep it fresh and still looking like you.

Beauty Review: Kissable Reds For Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! V-Day isn't just for lovers so give some hugs and kisses to your bestest friends and family! But if you're looking to give those smackers some serious attention here are some juicy reds I alternate between that'll make those lips look their most kissable!

M.A.C. Cremestick Liner in Red Enriched (in pic Enriched Red oops!): If you're going to do a red lip you'll want to make sure you line your lips to prevent feathering or bleeding. Start at the bow of the lip and work outwards to get the most precise shape. I love a lot of M.A.C. lip liners but this is one of my favourites. I love how creamy these liners apply to the lip - no tugging and easily applies over the entire lip. I've even used this on its own with a bit of balm. Red Enriched goes best with warmer reds but I've used it with bluer based reds. The only negative is that the retractable liners don't last as long as a pencil, but the creaminess and longevity makes it a must-have.

C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Tint Red: I'm addicted to lip balms and have close to 20 hanging around my house and various purses. I love tinted lip balms even more. These balms come in handy little tubes and impart sheer colour with high shine leaving your lips super moisturized and your breath smelling fresh. Perfect on its own or over your favourite red lipstick.

M.A.C. Lipgelee in Dewy Jube: I love these glosses because they are so super smooth and they give just enough colour. Dewy Jube is one of my favourites from the line (I definitely prefer these over M.A.C.'s lip glasses). It's a pretty cherry-pink that gives the lips a juicy pop of colour. This would look pretty with some shimmery shadow and soft pink blush.

M.A.C. Lustreglass in Venetian: Also another favourite of mine, Venetian is a gorgeous cherry red with gold flecks in it (I used this on-set "Where'd You Get That?" on host Ali from Chick Advisor). The difference between Lustreglass and Lipgelee is that these colours give the lips more colour and stay on a bit longer. This is one colour that looks beautiful all year round - especially looks great with bronzy skin. The only thing I hate about these glosses is that they are sticky and leave a white crust on my inner lips - yuck. But the colour gets me everytime!

Loose Lips NY Hint of Mint Lip Gloss in Mint Cherry: I received the purse size version and it has become one of my go-to glosses when I'm in a hurry for a glam night out. This gloss has some serious shine, colour and also freshens the breath (needed for those close encounters hehe)! The colour goes on like a full colour lipstick but the glossy texture doesn't overpower the lips.

Pink Beauty Luscious Lip Sheer Lipstick in Elsie: I know, I've given this rave reviews many times on my blog but I can't help it! This is one of the most wearable reds because the colour is so buildable. Elsie looks warm against my skin but looks cooler on fairer skin tones. Besides the vintage feel and adorable packaging, I just love how moisturized my lips feel. And even though it's sheer, the colour stays on a while leaving a nice stain on the lips.

M.A.C. Lipstick in M.A.C. Red: Classic. Besides other classics Ruby Woo and Russian Red, M.A.C. Red has a satin finish rather than matte. This is a great blue based red perfect for fairer or olive skin tones. The colour is intense and long-lasting.

M.A.C. Pro Longwear Lipcolour in Alta Moda: I think this colour has been discontinued which is too bad because it's a beautiful deep reddish-brown. If you hate reapplying your lip colour throughout the day, then the Pro Longwear's are perfect. These lippies will outlast any smooch and still be on the next day (this theory may have been tested ;). Also works great as a stain but if you have dry lips like me, your lips will end up getting crusty even with the gloss top coat. But if you have no lip issues then lucky you!

Estee Lauder Signature Hydra Lustre Lipstick in Rich Red: This super creamy lipstick has long-lasting moisture and intense colour. What's more to love is the luxurious signature gold packaging it comes in perfectly worthy of a public appearance. It's a gorgeous warm red with little gold flecks.

M.A.C. Matte Lipstick in Diva: When I want all eyes on my lips, I turn to my lovely Diva lipstick from M.A.C. I love the intense burgundy red colour and the matte yet creamy texture. I also love this as a stain which I pat lightly onto my lips with my finger. My lips look like they have enjoyed a few glasses of red wine. I also love dabbing a bit of gold gloss to the center of the lips for some dimension and poutiness. I'd normally recommend a soft eye with this lippie, but don't be afraid to smudge a bit of black liner or shadow around the eye. Think 1920's Clara Bow and add lots of shimmer to the cheekbones for some serious glamour.

What are some of your favourite red lippies? What are your V-Day plans? I'd love to hear about them! Happy shopping! xoxo
