Beauty Review: American Beauty

Fabulous Feel Liquid Colour glides on smoothly to give opaque colour with high shine. The formula is non-sticky and just like the name - feels quite fabulous on the lips! I test ran Amaretto, a pretty neutral pink-brown colour that works well on different skin tones. The colour stayed true for the most part, but I found a touch-up was required after about 3 hours. The one thing that took me a bit to get used to was the strong fragrance of the gloss. I like subtle scents to my glosses, but found this one initially overpowering. A minor setback, but the look and feel of this gloss is still a steal for $12 USD (approximately)!

Double Lush Mascara Plus Primer I'm not a usual fan of 2-step primer and mascara products, but I was pleasantly surprised by American Beauty's version. I found the formula gave my lashes much needed volume, versus other 2-step mascaras I've tried in the past. I tried out the mascara in Black, but Double Lush is also available in Brown and Midnight, which is a first that I've seen for primer plus mascara products (usually they're only available in Black). I love what Double Lush does for my lashes, and I'd definitely be willing to shell out the $12 US that this mascara retails for.

Ultra-Easy Automatic Eyeliner (Auburn) The simple twist-up and no-sharpen action of this eyeliner definitely makes it ultra-easy. I had the chance to try out Auburn, a gorgeous maroon brown with faint shimmer that looks particularly lovely on blue-eyed ladies. The creamy eyeliner glided on smoothly and lasted well throughout the day to keep my eyes defined (minor midday touch-up was required though!). This eyeliner is perfect for the no-fuss make-up junkie – no need for sharpening – just roll up and apply as desired!

Pretty Bronze Bronzing Powder (High Summer) Get that coveted bronze goddess look with American Beauty’s Bronzer months ahead of the summer season! The sheer tan brown powder accentuated with flecks of gold sparkle. With just a couple of swipes, you can instantly revive that glow and say goodbye to blah winter-skin (all my Canadians are saying amen right now!). The sheer consistency of the powder makes it very user-friendly to work with – it builds and blends well for a more of a natural appearing non-streaky glow. Dust some of the powder along the collarbones or atop the décolletage for the piece de resistance!

Spring 2009 Beauty Trend: Pink Irreverence by Lancome

This collection is the coming together of Aaron De Mey and Lancôme. One is dedicated to magnificent and daring feminity; the other is an eclectic make-up prodigy, a master of colors, pigments and textures, who reinvents and twists the traditional codes of elegance.

Charismatic, visionary and free-spirited, Aaron De Mey is one of the most talented make-up artists of his generation.

Born in New Zealand , he quickly set up home in New York where he successfully fused a series of eclectic references. The depth of his creative universe, his contemporary and non-conformist eye and his unique talent will drive him to excel in his art form. Since then, he has worked with the greatest photographers, the most daring fashion designers, and the most prestigious magazines.

Together…

Emanating from this eclectic fusion, a rich, chic and irreverent style, where two star colors meet, reinvented by Aaron De Mey: rose pink and sparkling black, more volcanic than ever.

Ultra-modern, but ever elegant, Aaron De Mey and Lancôme share the same ideal: a woman who exudes daring feminity, truly French chic allure, inspired by timeless heroines who have marked their eras with their panache and style, and whose individuality was also inherent in their beauty routines…

The Pink Irreverence collection is cantered on a radical duo of strong colors: pure fuchsia, in homage to the emblematic rose, and sparkling black, inspired by the volcanic sands of Piha Beach in New Zealand , from where Aaron De Mey originates.

Lancome Color Design Quad in Irreverent Madame Limited Edition ($52 CDN): Love, love, love this palette! The colours are gorgeous, ultra-smooth, and long-lasting. You can create endless looks with this palette - elegant with a modern, edgy twist or feminine yet strong with a punk rock flare! The chic black compact comes complete with a mini-makeup guide for creating different looks. You'll definitely give Spring's usual delicate looks a run for its money with this palette - be irreverent in the most beautiful way!

Lancome Laque Liner in Pure Black and Piha Sparkle ($29 CDN): The Laque Liner in Pure Black is rich, wet, and intense. It adds drama to any look and lasts all throughout the day. Piha Sparkle attracts attention to the eye with its delicate sparkle and shine. On its own, it gives a soft finish but applied over the black liner gives the eye rich, eye-catching definition.

(L-R) Lancome Color Fever Gloss in Piha Black ($29 CDN): I wasn't sure how wearable this lip gloss would be but once I played around with it the black hue made more sense to me. Don't be scared of this shimmery black gloss. It goes on sheer and is designed to be a top coat. Use it over any lip product and this shiny gloss will give it some rich depth. It will make light colours darker and darker shades deeper. Be irreverant and stand out from the crowd by wearing this black gloss on its own for a unique twist!

Lancome Laque Fever in Pink My Ride and Furious Fuschia ($32 CDN): Two of my favourite glosses of the season! Pink My Ride is a light pink with a sexy shimmery finish. It the perfect compliment to this bold colour palette. You can also use it to highlight the lips in the center for a voluptuous pout. Furious Fuschia is a bold, striking pink and I love it! It has the most gorgeous shimmer. The texture is non-sticky and has a lasting finish. Laque Fever will eventually be a permanent line with the same colours but in different names.

Lancome Le Vernis in Piha Black ($20 CDN): I tend to not wear black polish on the tips because I feel like it should only be worn on Halloween. Aaron De Mey's take on the black polish is edgier with little flecks of silver glitter. The polish stayed chip-free for 10 days!

Aaron De Mey's debut collection, Pink Irreverance, is available in Canada and online at www.lancome.ca February 2009!

Beauty Feature: Brow Power!

Just because the economy isn't looking so great doesn't mean your brows should suffer! Empower those brows with beautiful arches and radiant highlights! Anastasia Baked Highlighting Brow Kit ($32 US), just in time for Spring, is a convenient kit for brows and eyes. The uniquely blended terracotta baked trio is perfect wet or dry on brows and eyes for a fabulous wash of shimmer. Known to calm, soothe, and soften the skin it contains the exclusive Balkan Botanical Infusion containing rare plant and herb extracts found only in the rich soil of Romania.

This brow essential comes with 3 brow shades for custom blending and 3 shimmery shadows (champagne, gold, and peachy-pink) to highlight the brow bone or to be applied as a shadow across the lids. I love the natural finish of the brow powders and have been using this everyday since I got my hands on it. The shadows are really pretty but I find the shimmery finish to be a little intense for every day. I find it looks more natural highlighting the inner corner, center of lid and the brow bone. You can also use the brow shades to contour the crease or line the eyes. Cased in a magnetic snap closure with a floral design, it ain't just pretty - the kit is made for beauties on a budget!

Makeup Junkie will be featuring lip products that will make your lips oh-so-kissable and giving you the inside scoop on the hottest beauty collections and trends for Spring/Summer! So stay tuned and we hope everyone is having a fabulous week!

Beauty Feature: Beauty In A Recession

Beauty products will always have a place in our lives because for some of us, we would die without it! No matter how bad the economy is you can always count on a blush to perk you up or a pretty gloss to put a smile on your face. Let's be realistic though. As much as we'd like to go crazy on the newest beauty launches, it's just not financially sensible for some of us. Look on the bright side - this is the perfect time to rediscover an oldie but goodie (not too old!) and make it new again! Here are some tips on what to splurge on and how to maximize what you already own!

Steal: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is a cleanser I always have in stock. It's so versatile and works for all skin types especially those with sensitive or severely dry skin. You can use it with water or wipe off with tissue when water and a sink isn't available. It can also be used as an eye makeup remover - just dab a pea size amount onto a cotton pad and wipe. Another great trick I learned from a makeup artist I was assisting is to mix Cetaphil with brown sugar to use as an exfoliant for the face or lips! It effectively and gently removes dead skin cells, makes your skin soft, and smells yummy.

Steal: Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion has helped me get over some irritating, bumpy moments. When my skin has had it with being a guinea pig, it gets back at me with a red, itchy rash usually around my eyes, cheeks, and mouth. Cetaphil lotion always brings my skin back to normal and clears up those rashes. I've even started using it as an eye cream on my son and it has helped clear up the dryness around his eyes. You can also use it as a body moisturizer. Mix this with a shimmery pigment powder and use it to highlight anywhere you want some sexy shine! Add a bit of this to your favourite liquid or cream foundation to make an instant tinted moisturizer! Also available with SPF!

Splurge: When it comes products that help the performance of your makeup, I always like to spend a little more. Cargo blu_ray High Definition Mattifier is both a makeup primer and a mattifier so you're getting more bang for your buck. Your makeup will apply beautifully, last longer, and keep the shine away!

Splurge: If you don't have a good base then the rest of your look will just fall apart. I never like to skimp out on a good foundation. I just discovered Era Everyday Foundation and I've fallen in love! You may remember this one-of-a-kind airbrush, wear/water resistant oil-free foundation used by celebrity makeup artist, Carmindy from What Not To Wear. I tried it on a few clients who also fell in love with the flawless, yet natural feel and look of the foundation. It literally takes seconds to apply whether you spray it directly on the face or onto a sponge. It can also double as a concealer - just dab more on the areas that need extra coverage. The brand also carries a heavier version for more problematic skin, Era Face Foundation. Available everywhere and in Toronto, at Lift Beauty Boutique.

Splurge: It's hard to find a really good product that you can truly use on your eyes, lips and cheeks. I love multi-use products like NARS's makeup staple, The Multiple and now available in the Multiple Duo! They come in a variety of colours and give your skin a radiant, glowy finish. Just swipe on your eyes with some mascara and liner, dab it on the apples of your cheeks for fresh pop of colour, and slick onto the lips - your look is complete and all with one stick. The Duos give you even more choices so you can use one colour on the eyes and another on the lips. You can also use it to contour and highlight the cheeks. For a full colour finish on the lips use with a lip liner and a non-shiny lip balm. For a glossy finish, swipe on a clear shimmery gloss over top. My tip: finish the eyes and cheeks with a translucent powder for long-lasting effect.

Steal: If you love to have fun with colour and like creating a variety of looks on your eyes, CoverGirl's Eye Enhancers are a real steal! Colours range from neutral to tropical and come in shimmery, metallic or matte textures. You also have a choice of getting a single pan or a palette of 4 shadows. Use them wet for intense colour and as a liner or dry for a more natural effect.

Steal: You don't have to spend a lot of money to give your skin a luminous finish. Pigment powders can be messy but they can be used in many ways. I've become a fan of CoverGirl's TruBlend Mineral Blush and Bronzer. The Mineral Blushes go on great as a sheer blush, as a finisher after your makeup has been applied to brighten up your look, mixed with a moisturizer to highlight the cheekbones and anywhere on your body, or added to a clear gloss for a custom colour! For a faux tan use the Mineral Bronzer on the high points of your face with a brush, mix with a moisturizer for a bronzy glow, mix with a clear gloss for a sun-kissed hue on the lips, layer over top of a cream shadow for a bronze finish on the eyes, or mix with a liquid/cream foundation! Comes in a jumbo-size container so it will last for a while!

Steal: When it comes to my mascara, I've found drugstore brands are superior to the higher end lines. In the world of tube mascaras (mascaras that wash off with water, don't smudge or smear), L'Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara at $13 plus CDN is considered a steal when compared to other tube mascaras. You get a nourishing lash primer and the blackest black mascara all in one! Plus, you don't have to spend extra money on an eye makeup remover because it comes off with lots of warm water!

Steal: I've experimented with many natural products from head to toe but when it comes to the lips I'm all about it. Maybe it's because I ingest so much lip gloss and lip balm on a daily basis?? For something all-natural without a heavy price tag try a line like Kiss My Face. They carry everything including a great selection of lip products. I am loving the Sheer Organic Shine in Ruby. It's a gorgeous shimmery medium-pink that has a minty non-sticky finish. I'm dieing to try their Organic Lip Balms. Stay tuned for my review and colour swatches!

The bottom line is to be creative and come up with new ways to use the existing products you own. What would you splurge on and what do you consider a steal? Makeup Junkie wants to know!

Beauty Review: Eyes By Design Ultimate Set for Blue Eyes

I love the all-encompassing 360-degree approach that Eyes by Design takes towards getting your best eyes yet! The Eyes by Design Ultimate Set aims to simplify the beauty process by including both the eye make-up and treatment products you need - all in one package. The user-friendly set also includes a manual that details how to use each of the set's components and achieve different eye make-up looks with the palette. Check out our review of the Ultimate Set!

Transforming Eye Cream
A light moisturizer that aims to diminish the look of dark undereye circles and fine lines. The eye cream has a light serum consistency, and I only needed two pea-sized drops to cover each eye area. I have to admit I was quite surprised by the size of the 15 mL Eye Cream; it's quite a generous sized jar to be part of a package like this (no complaints, here!). Yet, two weeks later after using it twice per day, there wasn't a noticeable difference in the darkness of my undereye circles. But it did help my trusty concealer to glide on smoothly and give better coverage!

Retouching Cream (Eye Primer)
The eye primer is also formulated to eliminate the look of fine lines and dark circles. It has more of a gummy texture than the Transforming Eye Cream, but really smoothes out the surface of the skin it is applied to. I used it on the undereye area, but also on the eyelid to smoothe out the surface for eyeshadow application. It definitely kept my oily eyelids in check!

Transforming Eye Palette (Blue Eyes - Peach Shimmer, Taupe, Plum Brown, Bronze)
The four pan eyeshadow palette comes in shades that are designed to flatter each colour of the eye. I test ran the Blue Eyes set, and found it worked just as well for brown-eyed beauties! The overall pigment of the eyeshadows was good, but I would have preferred if the three of four shadows weren't shimmer based. The peach shimmer makes for a beautiful highlighter, but may be a bit dark for fair-skinned blue-eyed beauties.

Lining Brush & Blending Brush
The kit also includes two soft-bristled and ergonomically friendly brushes. The brushes are fashioned with a "Design Grip", which allows for easier control of the brush and aids in precise application. The Lining Brush can be used to define the eyebrows or as a subtle eyeliner tool when paired with one of the eyeshadows. The Blending Brush is great for building colour into the crease. I love that the brushes are full-sized and the fact that you can actually use them! How many times do we all buy products where we find the included brush useless?!

Eyes by Design also offers mascaras, brow and eyeliner pencils. You can purchase the sets online through the Home Shopping Network (www.hsn.com). The products are available individually, but scoop up one of the well-priced sets for a better deal! Enjoy!

Makeup 101: NARS for Salma Hayek Golden Globes 2009

“Salma’s makeup look was directly inspired by her dress,” said NARS Makeup Artist Matthew Vanleeuwen. “She chose a very neutral colored dress and wanted to make sure her makeup look would pop. I made her eyes the focus and added a lot of rich, jewel skin tones and fresh color to her cheeks and lips. Her look was very classic and chic, with some modern textures.”

Below is Matthew’s step-by-step to recreate Salma’s look:

Eyes
:
• Apply the China Blue Single Eyeshadow to top and bottom lash line [Matthew’s tip: “I love using navy colors because
they make the whites of the eyes pop.”]
• Next, use the Corfu Cream Eyeshadow as a base, all over eyelid
• Use the golden champagne side of the Alhambra Duo Eyeshadow on lid
• Then, use the Bengali Single Eyeshadow all along the lash line, rubbing it into the lash line, deepening the outer corner
of the eye, creating shading
• Curl the eyelashes and apply 2 coats of Black Orchid Mascara on lashes
• Go back over top lash line with the Night Clubbing Eyeshadow and use what is left on the brush under the eye to define
it [Matthew’s tip:“This shade is perfect to create a smokey eye – it gives a rich sparkle at the lash line with undertones of
green and gold.”]

Complexion:
• Use the Brightening Serum to make skin glow and apply the Makeup Primer
• Apply the Firming Foundation and set with the Loose Powder

Lips
• Use the Marnie Lipliner Pencil and Tutti Fruity Lipstick
• Next, mix the Boogie Nights and Greek Holiday Lipglosses and apply them over the lipstick
Blush
• Apply the Desire Blush to the apple of cheeks [Matthew’s tip: “I use a powder brush to apply blush. I find that a bigger
brush makes a much softer wash of color.”]
• Next, use the Laguna Bronzer with short, back and forth stokes from the back of cheekbone forward, to blend

Beauty Review: M.A.C. Dame Edna Collection

“Hello possums!” Dame Edna Everage is in the house! With her zesty zingers, cutting-edge appearance – lilac hair (which is completely natural), rhinestone-encrusted face furniture,
fanciful frocks – frankly; there’s nothing like a Dame! And there's definitely no one like Dame Edna!

In M.A.C.'s latest post-holiday collection, the Dame Edna collection is everything like their muse! The packaging inspired by her famously lilac hair and her signature rhinestone-encrusted glasses, will definitely bring out the inner zany dame in you. However, the sticker packaging reminded me of the Fafi collection which I wasn't really a big fan of. Am I alone on this?

I wasn't really blown away by the collection or the colours. Don't get me wrong - it's all very pretty but nothing I haven't seen before from M.A.C. I did get to try out Splendid Lipglass, a pale pinky coral. It's a nice colour although very similar to a M.A.C. classic, Prrr. All in all, the collection was just alright for me.

What did you think? Love it? Hate it?

Makeup Junkie Top 35 Editor Picks For 2008!

2008 brought on a bevy of new beauty favourites from skin care to hair care. I get to try tons of products throughout the year but only some make it into my everyday beauty stash. Here are my top 35 beauty picks for 2008! By the way, I didn't find a top fave in eye creams but I'm testing out a few as we speak. Since eye creams take time to see a difference it'll be a few months until I am able to reveal the results! Stay tuned!

1. Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser: This was my favourite cleanser out of all the ones I tried this year. I just love the thick consistency because a little goes a long way. My skin always feels refreshed and squeaky clean. It's also really gentle on my sometimes sensitive skin.

2. Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask: It's an instant spa treatment right in the comfort of your own home! This is a quick pick-me-up for those days when my skin is just blah.

3. Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream: Heavy duty moisturizer without the heaviness. This has saved my skin this winter!

4. L'Occitane Sunscreen Veil High Protection SPF 30 Face/Eye: Since I'm allergic to various products with an SPF this is the only one that didn't make my face breakout into a serious rash. Plus, it doesn't feel heavy or greasy.

5. Cargo blu_ray High Definition Mattifier: I've tried a lot of different mattifiers but Cargo's HD version is the only one I've tried that didn't make my face shine after an hour. Your makeup just glides on smoothly and helps minimize fine lines and pores.

6. Prescriptives AnyWear Multi-purpose Makeup Stick SPF 15: This is one foundation that is in my makeup bag at all times. When I'm in a hurry or just need to even out my skin tone in certain areas, I reach for this foundation stick. It's quick, easy, and has nourishing benefits for my skin. Leaves my skin radiant!

7. Benefit Erase Paste: I never thought anything would ever come in between me and my YSL Touche Eclat until I tried Benefit Erase Paste. My eye area is a little dry at times so the creamy texture is perfect for keeping it hydrated. It also acts as an undereye brightner and is thick enough to cover my dark circles without settling into my fine lines. A little goes a long way so this will last you for a long time.

8. Green by Nature Lip Butter Banana: I wish these were sold in Canada! I have many lip balms but this is by far my favourite. The flavour tastes natural and the brand's products are all natural. Really feels like butter on the lips!

9. Tarte 24/7 Lip Sheer SPF 15: It's hard to find a tinted lip balm that has staying power that's why Tarte's version is my favourite. The colour is long-lasting and it has a nice creamy finish.

10. Stila Lip Glaze in Grapefruit: I have a few Stila Lip Glaze favourites (Brown Sugar, Vanilla, Rum Raisin) but Grapefruit is my favourite so far. I love wearing this on its own for a subtle lip or slicking it over a pink shade of lipstick. Gorgeous! It's a bit tacky but the colour and shine last forever!

11. Tarte Lip Products: I pretty much love any lip product from Tarte. Not only do they contain skinvigorating ingredients that are good for you on the outside but they also benefit you on the inside! We ingest a lot of lip product so it's nice to know there are some that are good for you!

12. Lise Watier Plumpissimo Gloss: I don't usually like to wear plumping glosses because of the sting-factor but Lise Watier's are the only plumping glosses that I can wear. Plus, the texture is non-sticky and come a variety of gorgeous colours and finishes!

13. Pink Beauty Luscious Lipshimmer Lipstick in Kimberlina: I've been a fan of Pink Beauty's line of lip products since I first tried them last year. Well, the love hasn't gone away and this year I fell in love with Kimberlina, a sheer pink with swirls of gold shimmer. It's such a wearable shade of pink and the texture is just so moisturizing - you'd think you were wearing a lip balm!

14. Lipstick Queen Sinner Lipsticks: Everything from the packaging to the colours are just fabulous! Lipstick Queen's Sinner lipsticks which have a matte finish, are the best that I've tried. The pigments are strong and true to its shade. You'll be surprised by the matte yet creamy texture.

15. Tarte Cheek Stain: My first loves were Flush and Tipsy but my newest favourite is Berrylicious from the Berry Coutoure collection. The deeper berry hue is great for my skin tone. Long-lasting, radiant dewy finish, and loaded with nourishing benefits - and they smell yummy too!

16. Lipstick Queen Oxymoron Matte Gloss in Minor Crisis: Created to give your cheeks the same hue as your lips. Love using this as a cream blush because Minor Crisis is such a beautiful rosy pink and looks equally as lovely on the lips!

17. beautyADDICT ExpressGlimmer: I love the dewy creamy finish of this highlighter. It's so versatile too - swipe on lids, highlight inner corner of eyes, or mix with your favourite gloss or lipstick!

18. Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion: No slipping or sliding shadows with this primer! The wand applicator makes it easy for application but I've heard Too Faced's version is just as good and the applicator is much better. Will have to try that one out for 2009!

19. CoveGirl Lashblast Volume Blasthing Water-proof Mascara: I've tried a lot of mascaras this year but this is the one I always go back to. My lashes are always full, voluminous and super long! I know with the water-proof formula there will be no smudging or flaking.

20. Lancome Oscillation Mascara: My go-to mascara for those special occasions when I don't want to add falsies. Although it's not great if you're in a rush, I just love the faux finish it gives my lashes!

21. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil: I love these creamy, highly-pigmented liners. They glide on easily and don't budge all day.

22. Stila Smudge Pots: Amazing versatility! I love the creamy gel texture - makes for easy blending. It's great as a liner or using as a base to add intensity to a powder shadow.

23. Urban Decay Shadows: Urban Decay's holiday launch of Book of Shadows was a great way for me to try wide aray of the brand's popular shadows. Love the fun, rich colours. With this palette, I can create a million-and-one looks!

24. Bobbi Brown Basics Eye Palette: I was pleasantly surprised with this neutral eye palette. I've gotten a lot of use out of it. Great for those business meetings or for after-work cocktails.

25. Anastasia All About Brows Kit: With everything included it's such an amazing value! It has everything you need to keep your brows perfect and polished!

26. Anastasia Brow Duality in Matte Shell/Lace Shimmer: I use this everyday to highlight under my brow and it works well as an eye brightner. The shimmer end is great for the evening and can be used to highlight elsewhere on your face.

27. Sephora Detail Lash Curler: I have to use this everytime if I want noticeable lashes. It gets to the harder-to-reach lashes much easier and pumps up the length to the rest of my lash. Can also be used to achieve different effects.

28. billybBeauty "Paintbrush" Collection: I like to have a separate set of brushes for myself. Billy b.'s is so functional and transportable! It rolls into the smallest brush roll I've ever seen and these brushes are full size! Comes complete with 8 essential brushes to achieve a flawless look each time.

29. The Powder Group Clear Soft-Packs: For makeup enthusiasts to makeup artist, these clear packs will keep your beauty stash organized and easy to transport. They come in a variety of sizes and the clear packaging makes finding your favourite blush that much easier.

30. Benefit The bSpot Fragrance: I love this light fruity-floral feminine scent! I always feel sexy and girly when I wear it!

31. Kiehl's Ultimate Strength Hand Salve: My purse is never without it especially on the driest days of the winter!

32. OPI Louvre Me Louvre Me Not: There were many hot versions of royal purple this season. I loved the black-purple hues but fell in love with this brighter royal purple. Such a sexy colour!

33. Ojon Revitalizing Mist: Love Ojon! It's a great leave-in treatment and always makes my hair look healthy and shiny. Works well for mid-day touch-ups.

34. Bumble and Bumble Classic Hairspray: Since I've been rocking the curls, I've gone back to using hair spray again. Me being anti-hairspray for so long was relieved to try Bumble and Bumble's non-sticky, long-lasting spray! My waves always stay soft and in tact!

35. Chi Flat Iron: Where would my hair be without my pink Chi?? I can create the sleekest or waviest looks with this iron!

Did I list any of your favourites? Or were some of my top picks on your boo list? Makeup Junkie wants to know!

Beauty Feature: Winter Skin Savers - Lip Balms

A gal can never have enough lip balm. I usually have a few hanging around - two in my main purse, one on my night table, one on my work desk and a couple just for my kit. The winter season is especially harsh on my lips when the dry air zaps all the moisture, leaving my kisser cracked and chapped. Thanks to a few lip savers this winter, my lips are feeling smooth and smelling yummy!

1. LUSH Honey Trap Lip Balm ($8.95 CDN): I'm really glad I got to try this balm out because now I'm forever a fan! Honey Trap is the line's best seller for good reason. Beeswax and shea butter lock in moisture while oatmeal infusion keeps your lips soft. I personally like the scent but my husband is not really a fan of anything honey. The sweet mixture of white chocolate, honey, wild orange and vanilla sound delicious, no? The balm is ultra rich and feels super duper fantastic on the lips! Be warned: may melt in hot climates or in your pocket!

2. Green by Nature Lip Butter ($2.99 US): Absolutely one of the best lip balms that have ever touched these lips! If you're not a fan of potted lip balms then this lip butter in a stick form will have you swooning. I tried Banana Shea which is absolutely addictive! The ultra rich formula leaves your lips moisturized for hours so you won't have to reapply as much, but you'll find it hard not to! It got two thumbs up from both the hubby and boy. My lil' one loved it so much he used to steal it and hide under his blanket slathering tons on and eating it (thank goodness it's all natural)! The only downside - it's so good you'll run out really fast and be needing a new one before you know it. Thank goodness this balm won't break the bank! Available in other yummy flavours. Buy online or at a Target store near you.

3. Kiehl's Scented Lip Balm #1 ($8.50 US): Kiehl's popular line of lip balms are perfect for those days when you want your lips to be moisturized with a glossy finish and sun protection. The fruity scent of Pear is just wonderful and lingers nicely in the air minutes after application. I thought the glossy finish would slick off quickly but my lips stayed moisturized for hours. Even with the squeeze-tube applicator, you still need to blend with your fingers. The shine formula can be slicked over your favourite lip colour for a more glossy finish. For those no-fuss days, swipe this on for some shine and you're out the door!

Beauty Feature: Winter Skin Savers - Hands & Feet

The other day I was waiting in line at the grocery store and was horribly embarrassed at how dry, and scaly my hands looked. I quickly paid and shoved my hands back into my coat pockets. Lesson learned: never leave home without your hand cream! For soft, youthful looking hands try out some of these hand and feet skin savers!

1. Kiehl's Ultimate Strength Hand Salve ($12.50 US): Heavy duty creams usually mean greasy and sticky. Kiehl's version is anything but! You can expect all day care and protection with this hand cream. It absorbs quickly into the skin so you won't have to wipe the excess off onto your pants (yes, I've done that before!). It creates a "glove-like" protective barrier against moisture loss and can stand up to even the harshest conditions.

2. Green by Nature Hand Cream ($8.99 US): It just makes sense to go all natural. Green by Nature is an all natural bath and body care line, created with you and the environment in mind. All their products are over 95% natural, and free of parabens, sulfates, DEA, petroleum, propylene glycol, sacchrine, dioxin, and phthalate. I've fallen in love with this line and the price point! The hand cream in Almond Cocoa is just delicious and quickly soothes and moisturizes your skin. Enriched with vitamin e and and aloe with a luxurious blend of jojoba, almond and avocado oils your hands will be looking beautiful in no time!

3. Kiehl's Intensive Treatment and Moisturizer For Dry Or Callused Areas ($22.50 US): On the most driest and coldest days your hands and feet will need a little more TLC. During the holidays, I did a lot of dishwashing (darn large pots that don't fit into the dishwasher!) which as a result cracked and dried my hands to the core. As someone that doesn't frequent the spas for pedicures, you don't even want to know what state my feet were in! Kiehl's Intensive Treatment and Moisturizer is exactly the product you need for areas that require special attention, a.k.a crusty elbows or callused feet! On some nights I've slathered the cream on my hands and feet followed by gloves and some warm socks. My skin just soaked it up. The next morning I awoke to super soft skin! Do this for a few nights and you'll for sure see a difference. Works great as a cuticle cream too!
