Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day! There are many things we can improve in our everyday life that will make the earth a healthier and happier place to live. Often times I forget that some cosmetics and beauty products can be harmful to the environment. I'll admit that I haven't really paid much attention to ingredients or whether the packaging is environmentally friendly. But I'm starting to pay more attention! I'll be honest, it will be hard to tear me away from my favourite brands but I'm hopeful that all cosmetic lines will start being 100% green friendly!

I found this interesting site called Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database. It's an online safety guide for cosmetics and personal care products. Their purpose is to fill in where companies and the government leave off: companies are allowed to use almost any ingredient they wish, and our government doesn't require companies to test products for safety before they're sold. EWG's scientists built Skin Deep to be a one-of-a-kind resource, integrating our in-house collection of personal care product ingredient listings with more than 50 toxicity and regulatory databases. Check it out and see if your favourite brands are earth conscious and healthy for your body!

How is everyone spending Earth Day? Everyday should be earth day! I try to make a conscious effort now whether it be turning off lights in empty rooms, recycling and reusing, or buying organic food but there's definitely more that I can be doing.

Beauty Review: Beautiful Lashes With Sephora Detail Lash Curler!

If you're unlucky to have stick straight, short lashes like me you'll be happy to know there are tools to make your lash luck change! Shu Uemera eye lash curler has been a staple in my makeup bag for years. When I heard that Shu Uemera was coming out with a mini lash curler I wanted to get my hands on it. My bubble was burst when I found out that Canadian Sephora's didn't carry it and it was uncertain when or if Canada would carry it. The next best thing was Sephora's Detail Lash Curler. I LOVE this curler! You can focus on one area or just on the outer corner for a flirty fringe. I use it everyday now along with my regular Shu Uemera lash curler for major curl action. It takes some time to get used to the flat design but you get accustomed to it after a few tries. One negative is that it doesn't include an extra eye lash pad. But if you're in a lash rut this lash curler will take your lashes from ordinary to extraordinary! Happy shopping! Have you tried this curler? Love it? Hate it?

Beauty Review: Hair's Best Friend Is Chi Flat Irons!

As much as I focus on doing makeup and skincare reviews, my hair has got to get some love too. I can't believe I've functioned this long without a Chi flat iron! Ever since a hair stylist first used it on my hair I was in love and have lusted after one ever since. I received the Pink Chi Flat Iron from Misikko.com, an online store dedicated to bringing you the latest in professional beauty products and styling tools. Every pink Chi that is purchased, Farouk Chi will donate a portion of the product sales to finding a cure for breast cancer. It has the same features and functions as the original Chi including flipping, curling, and straigtening the hair as well as ceramic and ionic technology with an egornomic design that limits the strain on the hands and wrists.

I've been accustomed to flat irons that have a temperature dial so you can adjust the heat but the Chi does not have this feature. However, I've been told by several hair stylists that the temperature dial is not needed because the Chi's maximum heat is the right amount (356 F) and is all that is needed to achieve smooth, straight, shiny hair. The time it takes to style my hair has been cut in half with the Chi. Before I'd have to go over each section of hair more than once before it looked straight enough for me. I love how shiny and healthy my hair looks after each use. I also tried curling my hair which I don't do often and it was easy to handle even with my shoulder length hair. To enhance the shine, I apply a little Biosilk Silk Therapy serum over top of my hair which you receive as a free gift when you purchase the Pink Chi Flat Iron. Once you go Chi you'll never go back! Happy shopping!

Misikko.com has many other great brands to choose from so do check out their site for all your hair and beauty needs! Misikko.com is also running a contest from April 4 - April 27 where 3 lucky winners have the chance to win $100 Misikko Gift Certificate and 2 $50 Misikko Gift Certificates good for any products in their store! All you have to do is simply enter a review of any Misikko products by midnight (EST) April 27. Easy right? Click here for contest details.

Beauty Review: Vasanti Cosmetics

I've had so many readers tell me that they have a hard time finding brands that cater to darker skin tones (this one's for you Kam!). It's crazy to believe that there are still many cosmetic lines that don't expand their brand to include colours for darker skin tones especially since formulations and technology have come so far. Vasanti Cosmetics is a cosmetic line that is made for every skin tone but was specifically made to cater exotic beauties. The brand was also established in Canada and has branched out internationally. I used to use the line when it first came out back in the day, but I moved downtown and never saw it again. I was happy to try the brand again recently and I've found a few must-haves for my beauty stash!

The Liquid Cover Up ($23 CDN) is an amazing all-in-one product! I've been having really good luck with foundations lately and this one was a pleasant surprise. You can use it for foundation, eye brightner, colour corrector, and concealer. The coverage is adjustable - the handy little brush allows you to apply as little or as much as you need. It gives your skin a beautiful glow. I wore it last night and my friend commented on how nice and glowy my skin looked - not the sweaty shiny kind of glow. The makeup doesn't feel heavy on and your skin looks natural all day. It's oil-free and works for all skin types and skin tones. It's a great product when you're in a pinch and all-in-ones don't take up a lot of room in your makeup bag!

Face Base Foundation In One ($25 CDN) is a convenient powder based foundation. All I used to wear in my younger days was a powder foundation but now it seems it doesn't always make my skin look its best. My skin always ends up with dry flaky patches. Vasanti's powder foundation is really velvety smooth and didn't make my skin flaky. Coverage is buildable and always look natural. Powder foundations used to also make my skin look flat but this foundation brightens the skin. It's light-weight, oil-free, and oil-absorbing. I also like using it as a finishing powder over the Liquid Cover-Up.

Vasanti Concealer ($17 CDN) comes with two shades: the darker shade is used to cover up dark circles and the lighter shade can be used as a eye primer or to conceal blemishes. The two shades can also be mixed together to match your skin tone perfectly. I found the product to cover up dark circles and blemishes really well but I didn't really like the texture under my eyes. It looked a little heavy and kind of set to a powdery finish. I usually prefer a luminous finish for the under eye area. It's not for me but it may work for others.

If you haven't discovered Vasanti Cosmetics, you must check out the rest of the fun products the line carries. I'll be featuring two more wonderful products that will be in my Beauty 101: Makeup Must-Haves For Spring and Summer. Stay tuned! Happy shopping!

Vasanti Cosmetics is sold at select Shopper's Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques in Canada and online at www.vasanticosmetics.ca

Beauty Review: Belli Skincare Is Mommy And Baby Approved!

Looking for gift ideas for Mother's Day? Belli Skincare is the perfect choice for mother's-to-be, new moms, and for the mother who deserves some serious pampering! A few posts ago, I posted a rave review of Belli's Skin Smoothing Body Exfoliator. If you're not familiar with the skincare line, it is a line that was developed around expectant and new mothers. It is the only skin care line that is teratology screened meaning they screen ingredients and exclude any that are linked to birth defects or any other problems with pregnancy. The products are also allergy tested, free of synthetic dyes and paraben preservatives.

Just in time for sandal season! Belli Foot Relief Cream($18 USD) soothes aching, swollen feet and cramped calves. It is also aroma-therapeutic, anti-bacterial and ultra moisturizing. This is a wonderful lotion to use for a deep massage on the legs and feet. The peppermint, tea tree oil, and shea butter cools the skin and refreshes tired feet. Pregnant mothers will love this lotion especially in the last few months when your feet are swollen. Just kick up your feet and let the lotion do its work. The smell is not offending so don't worry about losing your lunch! I've been doing a lot of landscaping work in the backyard this week and at the end of the day this cream really relieves any aches and makes my skin feel fresh and soft. Recommended for anyone that is constantly on their feet.

I've been on the hunt for a LONG time for THE ultimate eye cream. A few posts ago I did a review on Clinique's All About Eyes that left me feeling underwhelmed. When I received Belli's Eye Brightening Cream ($28 USD) I was a little skeptical but hopeful. Here is what it promises:
"...revives and illuminates tired eyes. This advanced eye brightener hydrates delicate skin, lightens dark circles and minimizes the appearance of fine lines. Vitamin K enhances circulation and is shown in research to reduce the appearance of dark circles. Saccharomyces Cerevisia extract makes the area around the eye look restored, with a more uniform complexion. Rice and Soybean protein improve hydration and also aid in reducing dark circles and puffiness around the eyes."

I'm happy to report that I LOVE this eye cream! I didn't think it would be possible that I'd find one that actually does what it promises. I've noticed that my dark circles are a lot lighter than a month and a half ago. I've started using less concealer which is great because I'm almost out of my YSL Touche Eclat! :( The illuminating effect really perks up my eyes and my fine lines aren't as noticeable. The price is reasonable as well and worth it. It's a definite must for anyone that doesn't get enough sleep. :)

Hand sanitizer has saved me from a lot of sticky and yucky situations. The only thing about ones I've used in the past is they were always drying. Belli Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer ($6 USD) contains benzalkonium chloride - a non-drying, powerful antibacterial that kills 99% of germs on contact. It cleanses and moisturizers on-the-go. When you first apply it on the hands, it has a slightly tacky texture but it quickly disappears once it's rubbed in. The moisturizing factor is a major plus and my hands always feel soft after each use.

I wish I knew of Belli Skincare 2 years ago when I was pregnant! The products are reasonably priced and their screening process puts me at ease knowing I'm not putting anything harmful into my body. The great thing about this line is that you don't have to be pregnant or a mother to enjoy the line because it's really for anyone that wants to pamper themselves using safe products. Happy shopping!

Celebrity Beauty Style: Rebecca Romijn Beautiful In Coral

One of the hottest beauty trends for Spring are coral lips. There's no doubt that Rebecca Romijn is drop dead gorgeous but in the past she has looked a little drag-queen to me. Too much makeup sometimes works against her strong features but her coral and sun-kissed glow in this picture makes her look radiant and her features soft. This look is wearable any time of the day and works on every skin tone. Coral lips also enhance a sunny bronze tan. To compliment coral lips, stick with neutral tones in bronze, golds and browns and loads of mascara. Recreate the look with:

Eyes: As a base apply Chanel's Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Atoll, a golden sand, all over the eye. On the lid and into the crease sweep on Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Tigre, a soft bronze. Smudge Safari, a stone brown, into the lash line for subtle smolder. Apply a few coats of Inimitable Waterproof Mascara Multi-Dimensionelle for full voluminous lashes.

Face: For an all-over sun-kissed glow, apply a light gel-cream formula like Bronze Universel De Chanel Sun Illuminator on the high points of the face: forehead, cheekbones, nose, and chin.

Cheeks: To enhance a bronze tan, sweep on Soleil Tan De Chanel Moisturizing Bronzing Powder in Sable d'Or on the apples of the cheeks.

Lips: Kiss the lips with a beautiful coral tone like Chanel's Aqualumiere Sheer Color Lip Shine SPF 15 in Zanzibar, a soft peach for fairer skin, and Mauritias, a bronzed coral for darker skin.

Ali from Chick Advisor put together a cool and funny short video of L'Oreal Fashionweek Spring/Summer 2008 beauty trends with Eddie Maleterre and Eric Del Monaco. Check it out!

Beauty Review: Luxurious La Mer Skincolor

When I think of La Mer, I think of the brand's cult classic Creme de la Mer moisturizing cream. Some have loathed it and others have called it the holy grail of anti-aging creams. I, however, have not tried this product simply because when I think of the women that use it, I picture glamorous ladies adorned in fur- with lots of money! When the opportunity came up to try La Mer's new Skincolor collection, I was more than eager to put this luxurious line to the test. The innovative line fuses skincare benefits and colour together, working continuously to improve the skin. The collection includes The Treatment Creme Foundation SPF 15, The Treatment Fluid Foundation SPF 15, and The Powder.

The Treatment Creme Foundation SPF 15 ($120 CDN 30 ml) inspired by Creme de la Mer, is described as a "rich souffle engineered with weightless color and La Mer's remarkable skincare benefits to transform the complexion. Gemstones capture light energy to create a translucent color palette, optically erasing imperfections to reveal a naturally flawless complexion...Blue Algae Lift Ferment adds radiance and continuously lifts the skin...dewy finish...".

Wow, I don't think I've ever tried a foundation this creamy! And as rich as it is, the foundation still feels light-weight on your skin. I chose the Tan shade and when I opened it I thought it may be too dark. But when I applied it to my skin, it blended in nicely matching it perfectly! My skin looked flawlessly AMAZING almost like I'd been airbrushed! The medium-full coverage provided a dewiness which is nice in certain areas but after a while I found my nose got a bit too shiny. I find using a mattifyer on the nose fixes the problem. It comes in a little jar and is accompanied with a convenient little spatula for scooping and keeping bacteria out. Only a tiny amount is needed or else you run the risk of looking too made up. Once the foundation settles, it looks like your natural skin but much better. The SPF protects the skin and doesn't irritate or itch - major plus for me. It also never caused my skin to break out. For dry or mature skin, this foundation is fantastic and will keep you looking youthful and radiant!

The Treatment Fluid Foundation SPF 15 ($110 CDN 30 ml) is a lighter liquid version of the creme foundation and is made with the same ingredients. This one suits my skin much better and has the same luminous effect but with a more natural finish. My nose doesn't shine like it does with the creme foundation. Although it is a liquid form, the texture is creamy and not runny (which is the only thing I dislike about Face Atelier's). The coverage can be light-full by layering until you reach your desired coverage. It is long-wearing, leaving you looking flawless from morning to night. Once on, you forget you're wearing foundation. It comes in a handy pump bottle and dispenses the right amount of foundation. Lovely foundation for those that like a natural, perfect complexion.
The Powder ($90 CDN 25g) is described as a "luxurious finishing powder so incredibly light it appears to float. Developed with symmetrically shaped, uniquely coated particles, it magnetically attracts to the skin for a perfect fit. Airspun seaborne particles - some of the lightest materials on earth - create an imperceptible finish that leaves the skin looking flawless...".

Every time I open this powder, I really do feel luxurious and glamorous! The packaging isn't adorned in gold or anything but the powder looks like crushed diamonds! It makes my skin look amazing and kind of melts into my skin. The powder finishes the makeup enhancing the overall radiance. It doesn't really mattify so those with oilier skin are probably better off using a matte powder. Included in the jar is the softest, most plush powder puff I've ever tried! Applied with the powder puff the coverage is heavier but with a powder brush it looks more natural. Sometimes I'll just rub the puff on my face for fun - may seem weird but it feels amazing!

Overall, I'm really impressed with La Mer Skincolor. My skin always has a gorgeous, airbrushed glow and I always get compliments on my skin whenever I wear the products. I've resorted to only using it on "special occasions" because once it runs out it may be a while before I can get my hands on them again! If you are a Creme de la Mer fan, you'll certainly be happy with Skincolor. Skincare and makeup can sometimes be huge investments so if you are going to dish out a lot of money I recommend sampling the products before committing. There are less expensive brands that have the same effectiveness but don't have the same skincare benefits La Mer Skincolor offers. I personally have become a fan and if I have the money in the future it'll definitely be a must-have on my beauty list! Have you tried Skincolor? Love it? Hate it? Happy shopping!

The Skincolor range is available at Holt Renfrew across Canada.

Beauty Review: Maybelline Mineral Power!

I think the last time I used drugstore brand face products was back in high school. Formulations have definitely changed since then, especially since we've entered the era of mineral makeup. Maybelline is the latest cosmetic giant to expand the brand's line to include a mineral collection, Mineral Power, which includes concealer, loose powder foundation, liquid foundation, finishing powder and loose powder blush. Surprisingly, the majority of the products did not disappoint! The quality rivals some of the higher end brands. Check out my reviews from ChickAdvisor.com!

This was my favourite of the bunch! I was VERY surprised how amazing the quality was. I prefer this one over the loose powder because the coverage is a bit heavier. Like others have said a little goes a long way. It has a creamy consistency and blends beautifully onto the skin. I've tried many foundations and this one is right up there with my favourite Face Atelier! Pretty much the same consistency and your skin looks amazing! I also like that it doesn't feel like you're wearing a lot of makeup. I chose Honey Beige and it matched my skin perfectly. Works really well under the loose foundation powder. It's also long-lasting and lasted through a sweaty workout! It would be perfect if it had an SPF but since my skin is sensitive to some SPF products I prefer to use separate sun protection that I know works with my skin. The plastic squeeze tube also makes it easier for transporting. For makeup artists building their kit I'd definitely stock up on these foundations. It's inexpensive, very transportable, and the range of colours is fairly decent. When I run out of this one and my higher end ones I may have to pick up another one of these!

I definitely prefer this over Bare Escentuals brand for many reasons. It doesn't make my skin look shiny and oily, doesn't make my skin itch (no SPF - sometimes it agrees with me sometimes it doesn't), and the diameter of the case is big enough for a proper mineral buffer. It has a light-medium coverage which gives a natural finish. I prefer something with a bit more coverage though. I decided to use it as a finisher over the liquid version and it worked wonderfully together! It's long-lasting and lasted through a sweaty workout! The colour I chose was Honey Beige and I was pleasantly surprised that it matched my skin perfectly. Doesn't look chalky and gives the skin a luminous glow. I'd recommend it!

I chose to get the bronzer as the finishing powder. I was really curious to see how good Maybelline's bronze coloured powder would be. I really love the golden hue - no orange mess here! Plus, the pigment is strong so you can afford to use a light hand. I also love the texture. The powder is silky smooth and blends easily on the skin. The mineral texture makes my skin look luminous. It also has great staying power - it lasted through a sweaty workout! I swear lol. The packaging is sleek and has a convenient slide compartment for your sponge - perfect so it won't get dirty. But I wouldn't use the sponge for the bronzer - always use a big powder brush for a natural effect. If you're in the market for a bronzer it's a really inexpensive quality bronzer!

I chose the True Peach shade and I was really happy it was a true peach shade and not peachy-pink. I prefer a pressed powder blush but I loved how natural the blush looked. It's definitely buildable so you can keep applying until the desired colour. The little brush kind of irritates my skin so I prefer to use a real blush brush. You definitely need to tap it off in the container before applying because the brush can grab a lot of product. If you buff it into the skin it looks like the colour is coming from underneath the skin. I love how healthy and radiant the colour makes me. I'd definitely recommend it for those who love mineral blushes or love loose powders.

This was my least favourite product from the line. I chose Medium Beige seeing how that was the second last dark shade and it was still too light for me. It didn't give me a greyish hue, however, but rather the white raccooned look. But once I applied a more yellowy concealer over top it neutralized it a bit more. The coverage I'd say was med-full. I found the coverage to be decent and I did like the the luminous effect it gave to the under eyes. But I have other concealers that do a better job. If the line offered a wider range of colours it would really make a difference. Overall, it was just kind of "meh" for me. I wouldn't say I don't recommend it but it's not for me. May work for some but not a wide majority.

All in all, Maybelline's Mineral Power collection is a great buy if you love mineral products and inexpensive but quality makeup. Since trying this line it's kind of re-opened my eyes to drugstore brand foundations and I may even consider picking some up in the future. But for now, my heart is with Face Atelier! Has anyone else tried the Maybelline's Mineral Power collection? Love it? Hate it? Happy shopping!

Beauty Blogger Feature: Miss Chickie of Chick Advisor!

Photo: Ali looking gorgeous at the Chick Advisor after party for Shop Crawl Part Deux

Ali, a.k.a. "Miss Chickie", is the co-founder of ChickAdvisor.com and one of the savviest and fashionable business women I know. If you've read my site in the past then you are probably familiar with Chick Advisor and are even a member! If you aren't in the "know" it's a popular site where women (and even some men) swap their favourite (and not-so-favourite) buys from beauty to electronics! The site is there to make your shopping life easier by giving reviews, prices, and where to buy. Ali has taken her concept to another level by creating a vidcast, "Where'd You Get That?", and takes it to the streets of Toronto asking fashionistas where they shop and fashion tips.

When it comes to beauty and finding great products I thought who better to ask than Ali! Check out my interview with her as she dishes on some beauty tips and products she can't live without! Thanks Ali!

Makeup Junkie: Can you tell us about Chick Advisor and what inspired you to create your site?

Ali: In 2005 I was planning my wedding out of town (in Winnipeg) and was looking for reviews online for hair salons and spas where I would go for my wedding hair and makeup, etc but couldn't find anything. I started really researching and discovered there was really nothing out there. I mentioned it to my husband Alex in frustration and he suggested we build something like that.

MJ: It's become one of the most popular sites for reviews on everything especially beauty. How much do member reviews affect your buying decision when it comes to beauty products?
Ali: Big time. I have a big basket of partially used products under my bathroom sink of things that just didn't work, so now I research everything on CA before investing.

MJ: Now that the weather is getting warmer, do you have a beauty routine that gets your skin ready for Spring/Summer?
Ali: I drink a lot of water, I've switched to a lighter moisturizer, and I wash my face whenever I come in from being outside for awhile. That may sound strange but I find as the weather gets warmer, my face gets oilier and it traps the pollution in my skin (especially being downtown) more than in the winter. A quick splash of cool water when I get home gets rid of the grime of the city and helps me avoid unnecessary break-outs.

MJ: What are your must-have beauty products for warmer weather?
Ali: Garnier Fructis Fresh Cleansing Gel, Life Brand Gentle Skin toner in Papaya (mornings) Neostrata Toning Solution (evenings) Garnier Fructis Fresh 24 hr Hydrating Day Cream, and Kiehl's Abyssine Eye Cream.

MJ: You are the host of your own show "Where'd You Get That?". Do you have a signature on-camera makeup look or do you like trying different looks?
Ali: Joy, you are a genius when it comes to makeup. There were a number of different looks you did that I loved, but my favorite was the gold eyeshadow with the raspberry lip. It's just really fresh and fun!

MJ: What is one beauty product you are obsessed with right now?
Ali: I'm currently infatuated with Lise Watier Plumpissimo Le Gloss in Corail. It is such a gorgeous colour and the gloss has such a nice texture/taste to it. I also adore CoverGirl Line Exact liquid liner because it is the easiest liquid eyeliner I've ever used, and Makeup For Ever's Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation.

MJ: What do you think is the most important beauty rule you follow and that every woman should follow?
Ali: Drink LOTS of water. And do cardio. Drinking water and sweating is the best way to get gorgeous glowing skin. There is no product that can mimic that. Hot yoga is a really great way to achieve this, or running for 30 min, 3 times a week. If that is too much effort, carefully steaming your face once a week will make your skin look amazing.

Fun Facts:

MJ: lipstick or lip gloss?
Ali: Lip gloss.

MJ: wine or martini?
Ali: Hmmm.... wine.

MJ: favourite designer?
Ali: Andy The-Anh, Angela Missoni, Donatella Versace, Tom Ford

MJ: if a movie was being made of your life what actress would play you?
Ali: I don't have a sweet clue.

MJ: On a sunday you'd be:
Ali: at church. Then working.

MJ: favourite accessory
Ali: My hubby. He goes with everything in my wardrobe. ;)

MJ: guilty pleasure
Ali: President's Choice Organic Chocolate Ice Cream + Gossip Girl

Beauty 101: Beauty Prep For Summer Part 1

Warm summer weather is all about shedding those heavy layers and showing a little skin. What you might find underneath those layers of clothes might be scary so it's time to get your skin prepped and ready! This season it's all about healthy, radiant beautiful looking skin. Here are some skin-saving, skin-smoothing products that will get you ready to bare all (or just some legs and arms)!

Slough away dry skin, fine lines and uneven texture with St. Ives' new Elements Microdermabrasion scrub. The mineral crystals in this scrub, combined with soothing cleansers reveal renewed soft skin. After my first facial at the spa, I learned that my skin really needed a microdermabrasion scrub. Not wanting to spend too much money, I was happy when I came across St. Ives newest Element collection at Walmart on sale! Within a few days I was able to see a noticeable difference! I haven't seen my skin look this great in a long time. The scrub is really gentle and doesn't leave my face all red after each use. My skin immediately looks brighter and has an all-over rosy glow. The texture of my skin feels unbelievably soft, pores are a lot smaller, and my fine lines, dark spots and raised bumps are slowly disappearing! A definite must for perfect looking skin. The better your skin looks, the less makeup you have to wear!

Don't forget sunscreen! Yes, it should be worn all year round but some of us (including me) forget. My skin is highly sensitive to sunscreens and M.A.C.'s Prep + Prime Face Protect SPF 50 seems to be the only one that doesn't make my skin break out into a itchy red rash. It absorbs fast into the skin and doesn't leave a greasy film. It can double as a primer but I prefer to wear a separate primer on top because I find my makeup slides off during the day without it. During warmer months, this is heavy enough to double as my moisturizer and sunscreen. Remember: sunscreen worn everyday keeps the wrinkles and sun damage away!

Get rid of winter's dry patches with a good scrub like Belli's Skin Smoothing Body Exfoliator to reveal healthy looking skin. If you haven't heard of Belli products before, it is a line that was developed around expectant and new mothers. It is the only skin care line that is teratology screened meaning they screen ingredients and exclude any that are linked to birth defects or any other problems with pregnancy. The products are also allergy tested, free of synthetic dyes and paraben preservatives. Not an expecting or new mother? You don't need to be. The scrub is good for you inside out - your skin is left feeling unbelievably soft and you're not putting anything harmful into your body. It features green tea, ginseng, and peppermint oil. I love the fresh light scent, perfect for those breezy summer days. *Tip: Exfoliate on dry legs prior to shaving or waxing to effectively get rid of dead skin cells. More reviews to come from this amazing line! For more information on Belli Skincare products click here.

Do you want to know the secret to celeb-worthy beautiful, youthful looking skin? It's Malibu Secret! Labeled the first anti-aging face cream designed for your body. "An innovative body cream designed to repair and replenish using a potent combination of botanicals, anti-oxidants, various butters, and a multitude of vitamins". The texture is like a creamy souffle and absorbs quickly into the skin without feeling greasy or oily. I love how it leaves a healthy sheen on my skin. I also love the scent - it reminds me of the beach like coconut suntan oil. Healthy, supple looking skin is always in so slather it on and don't be afraid to show some skin this season!

Fake 'n bake is out and will age you fast. Getting a natural, bronze glow all over is easier than ever these days. Over the years, I've been really happy with Jergen's Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer because it really does tan your body within in a week. Now Jergens has come out with Natural Glow Express and results can be seen in one day and a full tan in just 3 days! The only thing I don't like about the original is the scent - smells so chemically. Other than that it works! Natural Glow also comes in face moisturizer with SPF 20 - don't leave your face out! The tan won't be natural if you have a pale face and bronze body! ;)

Now that your skin is all prepped, stay tuned for Part 2 for some must-have colours for Spring and Summer! Happy shopping!

Beauty Review: Purity Made Simple

Who doesn't love products that make your life simple? My skin a few months ago was going through some turmoil - breakouts, dryness, noticeable acne scars, you name it! My skin was going through a vicious cycle because the more I broke out the more makeup I wore. I've been using Cetaphil cleanser for years, but it was too gentle to thoroughly clean off the makeup. It was time to stop messing around with my skin so I finally settled on Philosophy's Purity Made Simple cleanser after reading many positive reviews.

Purity Made Simple is described as a "highly effective one-step cleanser". Deep cleans and dissolves makeup. Well, it's been 3 months and my skin is loving it! Surprisingly it didn't work well with the cult classic Philosophy Hope in Jar (this will be for another review) because it made my skin super dry and tight. Peeling, flaky skin not attractive. But Cetaphil moisturizer and Purity cleanser work harmoniously together. The creamy cleanser really deep cleans my skin and if you scrub your skin for 60 seconds like it says to do your skin feels and looks squeaky clean. It's also clears up nasty pimples right away and has prevented new ones from coming. I chronically break out around my jaw line but since using the cleanser I've had fewer breakouts! It's a tougher cleanser but it's definitely gentle enough for sensitive skin which I have on occasion. $14 (CAD) for the 3.5 ounce bottle is a little steep since I'm used to inexpensive drugstore brands, but it's definitely worth it for me. A little goes a long way - it hasn't even reached halfway through the bottle after 3 months.

All in all, it has made my life simpler! Healthier, pimple-flake free skin makes for less makeup and less time applying makeup! Happy shopping! What do you think of this cleanser? Love it or hate it?
