M.A.C. really loves bloggers even when our opinions are brutally honest. They strategically created an exclusive line with nine beauty bloggers from all around. How amazing is that? If you ever dreamed of creating a makeup line you can live vicariously through these bloggers! What do you think of the line?

Beauty News: La Mer Partners With Oceana For World Oceans Day

Beauty products make us feel good and look good, but when beauty makes the world a better place indulging in your favourite products just feels right. If you live to frolic in our beautiful oceans and love all the amazing sea creatures that live and roam in our oceans, then we need to do a better job at protecting them. With companies leaking oil and radio active chemicals seeping into our oceans, the animals and our health are at risk.

La Mer has partnered with Oceana, the world's largest international ocean advocacy organization since 2005. In honour of the sea, La Mer has created a limited edition 100 ml World Oceans Day Creme in a commemorative ocean-inspired jar. In addition, La Mer will make a $200 000 donation to Oceana in support of their Habitat Protection Campaign as well as other global initiatives for ocean conservation.
La Mer, a luxury face cream, has become a cult classic all around the world. I had a little container of this rich cream and I was sad to see it go. It was perfect for my winter dry skin and left my face feeling unbelievably hydrated. If you can afford this pricey tub of goodness (unlike me), go out and buy one in support of our oceans.

For more information about World Oceans Day and the partnership between La Mer and Oceana, please visit www.lamer.com/oceana.

La Mer’s Limited-Edition 100 ml World Oceans Day Crème de la Mer will be available exclusively at Holt Renfrew in Canada: May and June 2011.

Suggested Retail Price: $420

Beauty News: NARS Opens First Flagship Store Boutique in New York! Lucky New Yorkers...

I love boutiques especially when it has the name "NARS" in it. The new boutique opening on February 10 in New York City's West Village is white, bright and oh-so-chic! The fire place adds a warm, cozy touch. I can't help but drool over the displays of eyeshadow after eyeshadow, blush after blush, lipstick after lipstick!  The boutique will sell a series of products exclusive to the boutique such as 413 Bleecker Pure Matte Lipstick (warm rosy brown hue) and a special Bento Box that features three compartments for customers to fill with their favourite NARS products.

On my next trip to NY, this will definitely be on my list of must-sees! Who knows - maybe I'll bump into Francois Nars! Oh to dream...

Beauty News: This Makeup Junkie Is In 24 Hours Today!

I'm thrilled to be in today's Toronto edition of 24 Hours! Check me out on page 22 talking about holiday beauty trends and Latisse, the first and only prescription eyelash growth treatment that is now available in Canada. In case you haven't heard, I am currently the beauty expert for Latisse and I've also been lucky enough to give this lash treatment a spin! It's only been a little over a month and I'm starting to see some growth and fullness.

If you're not familiar with Latisse it grows your natural lashes longer, fuller and darker. The results are significant as well! When I get a chance I will post some photos of my lash progress. Like the article says, if you try the product now you won't have lush lashes in time for your holiday parties. It takes 16 weeks to see full results. But hey, why not start the new year with long, beautiful lashes?? When you reach for your eyelash curler and mascara, it won't take much effort to get that flirty lash you've always wanted! Sounds good in my books!

As with any cosmetic treatment, book an appointment with your physician to see if Latisse is right for you. Customers can only get this product with a prescription. Latisse has been clinically tested to safely and effectively grow your natural lashes. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me anytime!

World AIDS Day & M.A.C. - What's Your Favourite Viva Glam Lippie?

Everyday should be World Aids Day, but sometimes we just need a little reminder that more help still needs to be done in finding a cure. I love the M.A.C. Viva Glam lip products because you can buy them all year round and 100% of the selling price goes towards their M.A.C. AIDS Fund. Want even more reason to snatch these lippies up? They come in beautiful colours and different finishes - you'll be sure to find (or 2 or 3) that suit your style.
What's your favourite Viva Glam lippie? I started working at M.A.C. around the time Viva Glam V launched so this one will forever be my favourite. Plus, it looks amazing on every skin tone and all my brides love it!

Top 5 Reasons To Buy A Viva Glam Lipstick or Lipglass:
  1. Today is World AIDS Day. What better way to show your support than by buying a product that supports HIV/AIDS with 100% of the selling price directed to the M·A·C AIDS Fund?!
  2. A purchase with a tangible effect. What exactly does the $17.50 you pay for your Viva Glam lipstick do?
For men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in North America, one Viva Glam lipstick can pay for:

    • 8 individually tailored, nutritious home-cooked meals
    • 1 week’s supply of groceries (about 4 bags of food) for 2 clients
    • 14 blood glucose monitoring strips
    • Fuel for MANNA trucks for 37 deliveries of nutritionally sound meals
    • A Sunday meal for 5 people at the Denison Residential Housing Program in Toronto
    • 1 Hospitality Kit containing personal hygiene and grooming essentials for a client entering a housing program
    •
    • For men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS internationally, one Viva Glam lipstick can provide:
    • 2 children with 2 meals per day at Noah’s Ark for 1 month
    • 1 pair of school shoes for a child orphaned by AIDS
    • Support and education for 5 pregnant women diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, giving them the tools to prevent transmission to their unborn child

  3.   Support the M·A·C AIDS Fund and the Viva Glam Program. Since 1994, the Viva Glam program has raised $190 Million (USD) for HIV/AIDS organizations globally. MAF offers a large number of grants to these organizations and the money helps these charities in a variety of ways. Here in Toronto, MAF donates to a few different groups, two of which (Casey House and Fife House) are hosting World AIDS Day events at which a number of M·A·C employees are volunteering. Casey House is a specialty hospital for people living with HIV/AIDS and Fife House is a homeless outreach program/residence for people living with HIV/AIDS in Toronto. M∙A∙C artists from Toronto will pitch in to help at Casey House for their annual Voices of Hope concert, and at Fife House to treat residents and clients to a spa day. Along with their skincare tips and products, M·A·C is also bringing a $50,000 check to donate to Fife House this afternoon, on behalf of the M·A·C AIDS Fund!
  4. Raise awareness. Ever get questioned about your fabulous lip colour? What better way to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and M·A·C Viva Glam than by letting your lipstick do the talking?! Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper, our fabulous Viva Glam spokespeople, have a limited edition lipstick and lipglass available (photos attached) that they helped to design! This year, they are focused on raising awareness of HIV/AIDS with the female population. Forget the stereotypes. Women are more likely to become infected with HIV than men. While the overall rate of new HIV infections has slowed, the number of women infected with HIV is growing. And in every part of the world.
  5. Gifts that give back. Throughout the holiday season, there is even more that you can do to raise money for HIV/AIDS. M·A·C offers a Viva Glam lip bag and Sir Teddy, perfect stocking stuffers that support the M·A·C AIDS Fund with 100% of the selling price directed to organizations helping people living with HIV/AIDS. And don’t forget to pick up your Kids Helping Kids cards - deliver your message of holiday cheer knowing that you’re helping children all over the world that have been affected by HIV/AIDS.
Who knew lipsticks and glosses could be so powerful and make a difference??

Beauty News: Makeup's Biggest Weekend Is Almost Here! Toronto IMATS!

This is one makeup event I look forward to all year! It's hard to believe that one year has gone by already. In case you aren't hanging with the cool kids, makeup's biggest event is almost here! The International Makeup Show (IMATS) will be coming to Toronto on November 6 and 7. It's a must-attend event for industry professionals but definitely welcomes anyone who LOVES makeup!

Besides the copious amounts of makeup and makeup accessories that will be available, I love going and meeting up with my fellow beauty lovers. Be on the lookout for a group of us Toronto Beauty Bloggers (TBB) perusing the booths and shopping (check the TBB blog to see when meet-up times and locations are)! You will also have access to many top industry experts that you can meet and chat with as well as seminars and workshops.

I had a Twitter convo with makeup artist, Naomi from StylEyes, about how I decide what products to stock in my kit. I usually buy products only when I'm low or if it's something I don't have and absolutely need/want. I definitely depend on makeup artist reviews before making a purchase. With an event like IMATS, there is a temptation to go a little crazy so my advice is to make a list and stick with it. And if you're shopping with a group of friends like I will be, try not to get swayed into buying products you don't need. Here is what I'll be stocking up on:
Face atelier Ultra Foundation Pro ($32 CAD): This is the one foundation line I use on my clients 98% of the time. I always have brides coming back and asking me what foundation I used on their wedding day. What my clients love? Flawless, luminous coverage without the heavy feel. Click here to see my reviews of Face atelier Cosmetics.

Embroylisse 24 Hour Miracle Cream ($25 USD): You'll see this dream cream in most makeup artist's kits. Love this stuff and so do my clients! I need an extra one to use on myself! I've been using this lately now that the weather is getting drier. Click here to see my reviews of Embroylisse.

CoverFX Conceal FX ($27 CAD): I only have one shade but want to collect the rest for my kit! Gives full coverage, HD ready, and covers all your imperfections. Plus, it's water-resistant and fits easily into any kit or makeup bag. Click here to see my review of CoverFX Conceal FX.

Kett Sett Powder ($22 USD): What setting powder to use was also a topic that came up on Twitter. Kett Sett Powder has been on my wish list for so long and yet it has never landed in my kit. I've been using my trusted M.A.C. Blot Powders over the years but one of my shades was swiped over the summer during a wedding gig. Accident of course! Good excuse to pick this one up.

Also on the list are disposable mascara wands and maybe one or two brushes (my brush collection is pretty stocked though). Have you tried any of these products? What will you be picking up at IMATS?

I look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones! Stay tuned for my highlights of this year's IMATS! To read past highlights of Toronto IMATS click here.

Monica from The Beauty Parler has raved about the event and ever since I've been curious to go. Want to know more about the brains behind The Beauty Board? Check out my Q&A with Stephanie Daga!

About Stephanie Daga
Stephanie Daga is a Freelance Makeup & Hair Artist in Toronto, the Editor behind BlushPretty.com, and the Founder of The Beauty Board events. Her expert tips and work have been featured in The Toronto Star, Anohki, and LOU LOU. When she’s not talking, eating or breathing beauty, she can be found at home with her hubby, two boys, and black lab!

Makeup Junkie: How did The Beauty Board start?

Stephanie: One day, I thought to myself how great it is to be a blogger and how I get to test out a bunch of product daily. I wanted to share this experience with my readers; after all, I would get emails daily from readers, family, friends, and clients about what I would recommend or what I think about a product.  At that moment, I organized my first The Beauty Board.  I had twelve guests, held it in my small condo, and had four brands present. I let my guests test and try out the products and provide their “editorial reviews”. I posted the reviews on BlushPretty.com and the next thing I know I was getting requests to be a part of the next one.  The second event was held in October 2009 and it grew to over 35 guests and about 8 brands.  The last one in April 2010, had over 50 guests and over 10 brands present.  It grew so fast ...

MJ: What are some beauty must-haves that you discovered at The Beauty Board?

SD: Its so hard to narrow it down to just one! Everyone loved Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics for the 3-Free Nail Polish; COVERGIRL LashBlast Length for Mascara; Consonant Body for their Body Soap (which comes with a Loofah!!); DaLish Cosmetics lip glosses; MaryKay’s Cheek Colour in Pomegranate; and a past but on-going favourite is Cake Beauty’s Milk Made Velveteen Hand Cream!

Thanks Stephanie for organizing such a fantastic event for us beauty lovers! I can't wait!

Beauty News: TIFFing In The eTalk Lounge Recap!

My home during TIFF - the makeup/storage room!

My first Toronto Film Fest and I made it out alive! Despite the early mornings and the craziness that TIFF brings, it was one of the best experiences of my makeup career! I'm so fortunate and so happy that I got the chance to be apart of it with much thanks to Annesley from CARGO Cosmetics!

CARGO products used to touch-up celebrities and beautify the eTalk hosts!

There were many celebrities that came through the eTalk Celebrity Interview Lounge but the ones that I was most star struck with were Harvey Keitel, Paul Giamotti, Minnie Driver, Josh Brolin, and Jason Jones. Harvey Keitel is a movie icon and I absolutely loved him in Reservoir Dogs! He was our first interview yesterday and came in with a big smile and said "Hello! How is everyone this morning?". He's amazing and I totally would have run up to him and hugged him if it weren't for trying to be professional! Annesley had the lovely pleasure of powdering his nose!

eTalk Celebrity Interview Lounge. Swag everywhere! I was gifted with some sweet swag too!

Paul Giamotti was a big teddy bear and so sweet. I also wanted to run and hug him! Minnie Driver is so stunning and even more so in person. She's just so statuesque and elegant. Josh Brolin physically isn't my type but he's definitely got sex appeal. I was also expecting him to be taller in person since he usually plays these bad-ass characters in his films. Gotta love those camera tricks!

If you're not familiar with Jason Jones he is on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and is married to Samantha Bee. They are a hilarious duo. He sat in our CARGO makeup chair cracking jokes with us and talking about Bloody Caesars while Annesley powdered him up. He was awesome and I took a quick snap of him on my camera phone - shhh! Unfortunately we were not allowed to snap photos of the celebrities - understandable of course.

Loved doing makeup on eTalk Vancouver reporter, Susie Wall! She was absolutely lovely!

I missed Jennifer Connelly and Ryan Gosling and I heard they created quite a frenzy in the eTalk Lounge! Other stars I would have loved to meet: Natalie Portman, Carrie Mulligan, James Franco, Frida Pinto, Jason Reitman, Martin Sheen, Robert DeNiro, Blake Lively and Marion Cotillard (who I heard from Lainey Gossip is out of this world drop-dead-gorgeous). But getting to meet celebrities was just the icing on the cake. What really made the week worth it was working with the amazing eTalk crew, the eTalk hosts, Annesley and the David's Tea girls (which I'm totally hooked on now). What's ironic is that I didn't get to see any movies! So many on my list to see including Black Swan and I'm Still Here.

eTalk cast filming the last TIFF10 segment. I worked mostly on Lainey, Ben and Susie but in this photo I did Lainey's makeup (such a beauty).

Me with the gorgeous Traci Melchor - I looked so horrible that day!

My first TIFF down and hopefully many more to come! Did you see any movies or meet any celebrities? If you missed my first TIFF post click here.

Beauty News: TIFFing In The eTalk Lounge!

In case you aren't following me on Twitter or Facebook, I've been working with CARGO Cosmetics in the eTalk Lounge doing makeup for the hosts of eTalk and doing the occasional powder touch-up on the celebrities. I'm off for a couple of a days and decided a much needed blog post was in order! Again, my apologies for the lack of blogging!

Our makeup/swag storage room. Ben Mulroney's makeup all ready to go (far left corner)!

The above room is where the lovely Annesley from CARGO and I beautify the hosts. It's cramped but I've worked in worst conditions! The lucky celebrities are gifted with some of my fave products from CARGO: Cannes Blush, Toronto and Los Angeles Palettes, The Essential Smokey Eye Palette, and Lash Activator Primer and Mascara.

Celebrities that have come through the eTalk Lounge so far: Kat Dennings, Rachelle Lefevre (who loves CARGO), Paul Giamotti, Rosamund Pike, Shannon Woodward, Kathleen Robertson, Jack Rathbone, Bruce Greenwood, Scott Speedman, Minnie Driver, Zach Braff, Josh Brolin, Josh Lucas, Dominic Cooper, Molly Parker, Allie MacDonald and Terence Howard. I know there are more but names are slipping my mind! While on lunch I walked by Chris Cooper!

I did a powder and lip touch up on Kathleen Robertson who played Clare Arnold on my child-hood must-watch Beverly Hills 90210. She was so sweet and utterly gorgeous! Terence Howard on the other-hand was a different story. I had to do a quick powder touch-up on him yesterday. He's kind of intense but lightened up after the interview was over!

I'm back on Thursday and excited to see who will pass through. I'll try and snag more photos! I've had a blast so far getting to work on Ben, Lainey Lui, and Susie Wall! Check out Monday's eTalk TIFF coverage here: http://watch.ctv.ca/etalk/highlights/etalk-highlights/.

Have you seen any great TIFF movies? Spotted any celebrities?

Beauty News: CoverFX International Treasure Hunt!

(Picture heavy!) :)
Start the first day back to school with a treasure hunt! The lovely team at CoverFX has organized this amazing treasure hunt taking place in select cities in Canada, US, and the UK. I love contests that really get the fans involved. CoverFX's last event was a successful flash mob that took place all over but I have to say the treasure hunt tops it all! Click on the poster to enlarge for contest details and visit their Facebook page!

Last week I attended a fabulous event to celebrate the launch of CoverFX's newest star, EyePrep FX. I'm already a huge fan of their primers so I knew I would fall in love with this one. Not only is it an eye primer for your concealer, foundation and eye shadow but it's also an eye cream!

I spoke with Co-creator, Jenny Frankel, who informed me that it's better not to layer the EyePrep FX over your traditional eye cream as it may affect the 'stay put' primer quality. However, if you just can't live without your favourite eye cream, Jenny suggests applying EyePrep FX during the day and your night cream at night. But to reap the full benefits of EyePrep, it's best to use both day and night. It's also made without silicone so for all you oily lids your shadow won't slip and slide throughout the day.

I had a blast at the event (despite the heat and sweat!) seeing all my fellow blogger buddies and meeting new ones. And of course, it's always a pleasure being able to chat with CoverFX creators, Lee and Jenny! Thank you to the fabulous Marketing Co-Ordinator, Melissa Shum, for throwing a great event and wearing those fantastic purple heels!

Sh-wag!
